Jhelum Hosts First Punjab Painting Competition to Celebrate Cultural Richness

Rawalpindi, The inaugural Punjab Painting Competition was held at Government Post Graduate College Tallainwal in Jhelum, showcasing the region’s cultural and historical wealth through the medium of art. The event, aimed at celebrating Punjab’s diverse heritage, attracted dozens of young artists aged 16 to 35, who competed to capture the essence of the province’s natural landscapes, historical sites, and vibrant traditions on canvas.

According to Punjab Arts Council, Director Arts Council Waqar Ahmad graced the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, Ahmad lauded Punjab’s status as a beacon of culture and history, noting the province’s scenic beauty, religious tourism spots, historical landmarks, and rich cultural festivities. He highlighted the Arts Council’s commitment to nurturing new talent, pointing out that the artists trained by the council have gone on to achieve international recognition, thereby promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage globally.

Deputy Director Muhammad Shakoor emphasized the role of artists in positively impacting society by bringing the splendor of nature and the richness of culture to life through their artwork. He remarked on the Punjab Arts Council’s significant contributions to preserving and promoting the cultural and traditional values of Punjab and beyond, establishing a unique identity for the institution across Pakistan.

The competition concluded with Majida Bibi, Nida Arif, and Affifa Naz securing the first, second, and third positions, respectively. Their winning entries were celebrated for encapsulating the beauty and spirit of Punjab. In recognition of their achievements, the chief guest distributed checks and certificates of appreciation to the winners, marking a successful conclusion to the event.

This competition not only provided a platform for young artists to showcase their talents but also reinforced the importance of art in celebrating and preserving cultural identities.
