Lahore, Amidst escalating tensions over agricultural policies, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, declared his commitment to reclaiming every penny of the farmers’ losses from the government. His statement came during a significant farmers’ march in Lahore, where grievances against fiscal mismanagement and insufficient agricultural support were vocally expressed by thousands of participants.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Rahman criticized the Punjab government’s recent promise to distribute PKR 400 billion to farmers as insufficient and poorly timed, accusing the administration of financial negligence, particularly in relation to wheat procurement. He charged that the current rulers, beholden to international financial pressures, have neglected the agricultural sector, leading to widespread distress among farmers. Rahman’s address further highlighted the economic disparities in the country, accusing the ruling elite of accumulating wealth overseas while the nation grapples with economic challenges.
The march, which saw farmers rallying from Masjid Shahada to the Chief Minister’s House, was met with police resistance, resulting in several arrests. Despite this, leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami, including Naib Amir Liaquat Baloch and Secretary General Ameerul Azim, actively participated, underscoring their support for the agrarian community’s demands.
