Jamaat-e-Islami Declines Participation in Presidential Election, Criticizes Current Government

Islamabad, In a firm stance on its political strategy, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced it will not partake in the upcoming presidential election, asserting that the current administration is illegitimate and that genuine democratic authority should derive from the people’s vote. The party, led by Siraj-ul-Haq, decries the recent electoral processes as flawed and undermines public trust in democracy.

According to Jamaat-E-Islami Pakistan, Amir Siraj-ul-Haq highlighted the party’s perspective that both the prime minister and cabinet hold their positions due to purportedly fraudulent elections, branding the presidential election conducted in such a context as undemocratic and illegitimate. Haq argues that true leadership should emerge from authentic, people-backed electoral processes, criticizing the transient nature of the incumbent government and accusing it of being a continuation of detrimental policies that prioritize foreign debt over national welfare.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s critique extends to the broader societal impact of the government’s perceived failings, calling for the youth to engage constructively to mitigate societal divisions and foster a culture of tolerance and justice. At a book fair in Punjab University, Haq further elaborated on his vision for Pakistan, emphasizing the crucial role of education and advocating for significant public investment to enable a more equitable and prosperous future.

The party envisions a democracy reinforced by civil supremacy, rule of law, and a merit-based system, pledging continued efforts to unite Pakistanis towards a corruption-free society. Haq also addressed the pressing need for educational reform, proposing increased GDP allocation for education to ensure that all Pakistanis have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
