IUB’s 55th Academic Council Meeting Approves Multidisciplinary PhD Programs and Syllabus Amendments

Bahawalpur, 13 Oct 2023: The 55th meeting of the Academic Council at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) underwent, casting approvals and considerations on multiple academic and administrative aspects, as per the information provided in a press release by The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, and held at the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus, the meeting drew participation from deans, professors, principal colleges, and heads of teaching departments, tackling agenda items that spanned across a variety of educational programs, degrees, and administrative matters. A pivotal decision materialized in the approval of teaching multi-disciplines at the PhD level across several fields, accompanied by approvals and considerations concerning amendments in syllabi, PhD theses, semester progress reports, and administrative structures for various subjects.

Prof. Dr. Jawad Iqbal, Director Academics, presented a comprehensive report elucidating the execution status of decisions ordained during the preceding meeting. The meeting witnessed approvals for amendments in the syllabi of manifold educational programs and authorized the instruction of multi-disciplines at the PhD level in a diverse array of fields such as Homeopathic Medical Sciences, Pharmacognosy, Arts, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Islamic and Conventional Banking, Sports Sciences, Social Sciences, and Education. Moreover, an approval of PhD theses and semester progress reports was also registered during the discourse of the meeting.

Further into the session, deliberations were undertaken on proposed amendments concerning the rules for PhD and MPhil in an assortment of subjects. Administrative Sciences, Project Operation Management, Physics, Post-Graduation College, Botany, Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, Pharmacology, Forestry, Economics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, Bachelor of Architecture, Archaeology, Civil Engineering, Nursing, Software Engineering, Biotechnology, Telecommunication, Cyber Security became subjects of agenda items considered at BS, MPhil, and PhD levels.

In light of a surge in admission applications across various teaching programs, the council sanctioned an increment in the number of seats and sections, aiming to accommodate the elevated demand for admissions within the varied educational endeavours at the institution.
