IoBM Hosts Insightful Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights Protection in Pakistan

Karachi, The Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) successfully conducted a seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights Protection in Pakistan” on November 28, 2023. This initiative aimed to educate participants on the essentials of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and their importance in the Pakistani context.

According to Institute of Business Management, Ms. Saima Kanwal, a Senior Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, led the seminar as the keynote speaker. IoBM’s faculty and management, including Dr. Seema Ansari, Advisor to the Rector; Dr. Akhlaq, Director ORIC; Dr. Shahid Amjad, HoD, Environment and Energy Management; and Dr. Muhammad Arif, Director Research, participated in the event, along with other heads of departments and staff.

The seminar shed light on the fundamental concepts of intellectual property rights, their significance for researchers and entrepreneurs, and the legal and administrative framework governing IPRs in Pakistan. Ms. Saima Kanwal’s session was particularly enlightening, as she delved into different types of IPRs, their strategic importance, and how to leverage them for business and product development. She also shared insights on legal procedures for protecting intellectual property at both national and international levels.

A key highlight of the seminar was the guidance provided on selecting strong trademarks and the intricacies of drafting a patent application for protection in Pakistan. This made the seminar not only informative but also practical for the attendees.

The seminar was organized under the guidance of Dr. Akhlaq, Director of ORIC at IoBM, and his team, including Syed Faraz Ali, Manager, and Ms. Donia Niaz, Assistant Manager of the ORIC department. This event was a testament to IoBM’s commitment to fostering an environment of knowledge and innovation, particularly in the realm of intellectual property rights.
