Islamabad, An international workshop focusing on curriculum development through Project Based Learning and CDIO was held at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The event, which featured national and international speakers, explored innovative approaches in educational practices.
According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the workshop titled “Curriculum Development through Outcome Based Education and CDIO” was organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Faisal Masjid Campus. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort to enhance the quality of education, particularly in the engineering and technology fields.
Project-Based Learning, a central theme of the workshop, is an educational approach designed to help students develop skills and knowledge through real-world challenges and problems. The CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate) Initiative is an educational framework focusing on engineering fundamentals within the context of real-world systems and products. The workshop’s sponsorship came from the Higher Education Commission and the British Council Pakistan under the PAK-UK Education Gateway Mobility Grant.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Raheman, Acting President of IIUI, in his address, lauded the Faculty for organizing an informative and innovative workshop. Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, also praised the initiative, emphasizing its importance in the professional development of future educators.
The workshop brought together experts like Dr. A.S. Ahmed Cheema (Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIKI), Dr. Tabbi Wilberforce Eight from King’s College London, Dr. Gareth Thomson, and Dr. Sarah Junaid from Aston University, along with Fareeha Azmat from the University of Warwick. These speakers shared their insights and experiences, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of outcome-based education and CDIO.
The event concluded with practical activities including a CDIO and Lego session conducted by Dr. Sarah, Dr. Tabbi, Dr. Muftooh, and Dr. Umar Mansoor. The workshop provided valuable perspectives on curriculum development, emphasizing the role of innovative teaching methodologies in shaping future education systems.
