Islamabad: During the 27th session of the National Assembly held from May 11 to May 22, 2026, only 20 percent of the 333 members attended all nine sittings, while 10 percent were absent throughout, highlighting varied participation levels among lawmakers.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the session's first sitting saw the highest attendance, with 249 members present, equating to 75 percent of the assembly. In contrast, the fifth sitting recorded the lowest attendance at 49 percent, with only 164 members attending. A notable 80 percent of the members missed at least one sitting during the session.
The report further notes that among cabinet members, one federal minister and a state minister were present at all sittings, while two others, including one federal minister, were absent for the entire session. The Prime Minister was also absent from all nine sittings, whereas the Leader of the Opposition attended each one.
In terms of ministerial responsibilities, 12 out of 26 federal ministers required to participate in Question Hour were present when scheduled. Meanwhile, of the eight ministers expected to respond to Calling Attention Notices, only three attended a relevant sitting.
