Karachi, Two prominent public sector medical universities, Dow University of Health Sciences and Jinnah Sindh Medical University, have entered into a collaboration with the Association of Healthcare, an international non-profit organization. This partnership aims to address the global shortage of healthcare professionals by providing education, training, and job opportunities.
According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the memorandum of understanding was signed at a ceremony in a local five-star hotel in Karachi. The agreement was inked by Dr. Ashar Afaq, Registrar of Dow University, and Arazam Khan, Registrar of JSMU, while Dr. Jamilur Rahman represented the Association of Healthcare Professionals Globally.
The Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammad Saeed Qureshi, and the Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, were present at the ceremony along with other notable figures including Indus Hospital CEO Dr. Abdul Bari, Dr. Mazhar Sheikh, Dr. Tipu Sultan, and Dr. Akhtar Chaghatai.
Prof. Qureshi highlighted the severe global shortage of doctors and healthcare workers, including in Pakistan, and emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing these needs. He stated that Dow University produces a significant number of professionals in MBBS, BDS, and allied health sciences who are making their mark worldwide. This collaboration is expected to further enhance the skills and training of healthcare professionals, meeting international demands.
Dr. Jamilur Rahman and Dr. Mazhar Sheikh, founders of the Association of Healthcare Professionals Globally, spoke about the impending changes in Pakistan’s healthcare sector. The Association, a U.S.-registered organization, consists largely of former students from Pakistani medical institutions, including Dow. It aims to connect doctors and healthcare technicians like dental technicians, radiologists, OT technicians, nurses, sonologists, and X-ray technicians with global employment opportunities, providing a platform for training and job placements.
This partnership marks a significant step in global healthcare collaborations, offering Pakistani healthcare professionals an opportunity to serve and excel in the international healthcare arena.
