Faisalabad and Sahiwal Divisions Triumph in Rising Punjab Games Athletics

Lahore, The Rising Punjab Games 2024 concluded its athletics events with Faisalabad division clinching the Women’s Athletics title with a commanding 152 points and Sahiwal division leading the Men’s Athletics event with 127 points. The competitions were part of a broader sports event held at Punjab Stadium on Wednesday, aimed at promoting sports and physical activities across the province.

According to Sports Board Punjab, Lahore division secured the second position in the women’s category with 89 points, while Rawalpindi division took third with 50 points. In the men’s category, Gujranwala and Faisalabad divisions followed Sahiwal, securing second and third places with 95 and 85 points respectively.

The event received commendation from Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail, who congratulated the athletes from Faisalabad and Sahiwal for their outstanding performances. The Rising Punjab Games, being the first event under Sports Board Punjab’s Annual Sports Calendar Programme, has set a precedent for future sports initiatives in the region.

In addition to athletics, the Rising Punjab Games 2024 also hosted a Table Tennis Championship, witnessing teams from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sahiwal divisions making it to the Team Event semifinals after victorious quarterfinals at the NPSC Gymnasium Hall. The semifinals are set to feature matches between Faisalabad and Sahiwal for the women’s teams, and Faisalabad and Bahawalpur for the men’s teams, promising exciting contests ahead.

The games have showcased remarkable talent in various disciplines, with notable performances in the athletics segment. Fatima Hussain from Faisalabad won the women’s javelin throw, while Lahore’s Shajar Abbas took first in the men’s 100m dash, highlighting the high level of competition and skill among the participants.

The Rising Punjab Games have not only provided a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities but have also fostered a spirit of healthy competition and unity among the divisions. The event’s success is a testament to the region’s dedication to nurturing sports talent and encouraging active participation in physical activities.
