Ashwin, Iyer advance in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings 

Dubai, December 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer have made significant gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after helping India win the second match of their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

Ashwin has moved up one slot and is joint-fourth among bowlers along with Jaspreet Bumrah after finishing with six wickets in the match. He has also inched up three places to 84th among batters following a crucial knock of 42 not out in the second innings that enabled a three-wicket victory and won India crucial WTC points.

Ashwin, who has been the No. 1 bowler and all-rounder in the past, has also earned seven rating points in the all-rounders’ rankings, which are led by his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is currently on 369 rating points while Ashwin is on 343.

Iyer, who partnered in an unbroken 71-run partnership with Ashwin that steered the team to victory, has attained a career-best 16th position. Iyer’s scores of 87 and 29 not out have helped him progress from 26th position, his previous best in the rankings.

Rishabh Pant remains the top-ranked Indian batter in sixth position after gaining three rating points courtesy his score of 93 in the first innings while fast bowler Umesh Yadav has gained five places to reach 33rd position after finishing with five wickets in the match.

Bangladesh batter Litton Das has attained a career-best 12th position after scores of 25 and 73 while Momin ul Haque (up five places to 68th), Zakir Hasan (up seven places to joint-70th) and Noor ul Hasan (up five places to 93rd) have also moved up the rankings.

Spinners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have gained two spots each to reach 28th and 29th positions, respectively, while Captain Shakib Al Hasan has gained one spot and is 32nd. Taijul had a four-wicket haul in the first innings while Mehidy and Shakib finished with six wickets each in the match.

ICC Awards 2022 set to launch with announcements of nominees

Dubai, December 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the upcoming programme for the ICC Awards 2022, which seeks to celebrate the outstanding cricketers who excelled on the world stage during the calendar year.

The year saw many memorable moments and performances across the global game, including the thrilling action which characterised the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, and the incredible drama of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

The ICC Awards 2022 will comprise a total of 13 categories, with awards honouring individuals who shone in specific formats, and also across multiple formats in the overall categories – the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.

Shortlist Announcements

Shortlists for nine of the 13 categories will be revealed between 28 – 30 December on ICC official channels. Each shortlist will feature four names.

28 December sees the shortlists for ICC Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year revealed.

29 December sees nominees announced for the Men’s and Women’s ODI Cricketers of the Year, and the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketers of the Year.

30 December will see the final shortlists revealed, the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.

Shortlists for these categories have been determined by a specialist panel of cricket writers and broadcasters, who identified the star performers based on statistics and overall achievements in international cricket through the calendar year.

Voting

Voting in the ICC Awards 2022 will then commence in early January 2023, where a wider selection of global media representatives, the ICC Voting Academy, will submit their selections alongside global cricket fans, who will once again be encouraged to vote at icc-cricket.com for their winners.

Results of the ICC Voting Academy selections and the fans’ vote will be combined to determine the winner in each of these nine categories.

ICC Men’s and Women’s Associate Cricketers of the Year will also be announced from the action in 2022. These categories will not feature shortlists and will be determined solely by the ICC Voting Academy.

Also announced as part of the ICC Awards is the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. This accolade honours an action, moment, gesture, or decision on the field of play in international cricket during the year which best reflects the Spirit of Cricket, with the winning entry selected by the ICC.

Finally, the ICC Umpire of the Year Award will celebrate the outstanding umpire from the calendar year. This award is determined by votes collected from the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees, as well as playing captains from ICC Full Member nations.

In addition to the individual awards, five ICC Teams of the Year will be also decided by the ICC Voting Academy, identifying the standout XIs from the international stage in men’s and women’s cricket.

Following the conclusion of the voting period, winners of the ICC Awards 2022 will be announced later in January 2023.

Syed Ali Shah will play college baseball next season with Flinders Smith College in the United States 

Lahore, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Federation Baseball President Syed Fakhar Ali Shah while talking with media said that Syed Ali Shah, the son of Syed Khawar Shah (Late) will play college baseball next season with Flinders Smith College in the United States. He and other officials and sports circles have congratulated Pakistan’s outstanding young baseball player Syed Ali Shah to pursue his education as well as play college baseball with Philander Smith College in the 2023 season.

Fakhar Shah said that it is a big step, Syed Ali Shah, who is the son of late Syed Khawar Shah, the founder of Baseball Pakistan, will be our first Pakistani national baseball player to receive this college scholarship. Team Pakistan is very proud of him and we wish him Best of Luck for his future career.

Syed Fakhar Ali Shah also informed that the baseball players, especially the baseball players affiliated with the university and educational boards and educational institutions, expressed their good wishes for Syed Ali Shah. Lahore, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 3rd National Athletes Forum organized by the Athletes Commission of Pakistan Olympic Association concluded today at Lahore College for Women University.

The last day of the event started with an informative presentation of the Athletes Rights and Responsibility by Ms. Sumera Sattar, Executive Member POA, Mr. Muhammad Inam, Chair POA Athletes Commission and Ms. Asma Akram, Young Olympic Ambassador. Mr. Hamdan Nazir, MEMOSIAN, gave on Non-Accidental Violence in Sports. Mr. Manzoor ul Hasan, Olympian and Col (R) Saeed Khan interacted with the athletes.

Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University, guest of honour, thanked the POA for this collaboration and said we must take further steps for empowering athletes. She said that LCWU is looking forward to work with POA for this national cause.

Mr. Tayyab Ikram, President FIH, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Addressing the athletes and students, he said that you (athletes) have huge potential to benefit from their hard work and it is in that process that the athletes empower themselves not only for their own good but also for the social welfare.

Three high-performing teenagers added to Test squad

Lahore, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):As part of its strategy and vision to develop, grow and incentivise high-performing talented youngsters, the Men’s Interim Selection Committee have added three top-performers from age-group cricket to the Pakistan Test squad with the objective of providing them international exposure and experience.

The three players are: all-rounder Arafat Minhas (Multan), top-order batter Basit Ali (Dera Murad Jamali) and right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Zeeshan (Faisalabad).

Shahid Afridi, Chair of Men’s Interim Selection Committee: “We are not only looking at present but also have an eye on the future. In this relation, we have added three top-performers from our age-group cricket so that they can spend time with their stars in the national side and learn how to plan and prepare for high pressure matches.

“Although the three players will not be available for selection, this initiative will fast track their progress and provide them better awareness, understanding and knowledge about the rigours and demands of top-grade cricket.”

Arafat Minhas was adjudged best all-rounder of the Pakistan Junior League when he scored 178 runs and took nine wickets for Gwadar Sharks, while Bahawalpur Royals’ Basit Ali was named player and best batter of the PJL with after finishing as the top-scorer with 379 runs. He also featured in the U19 series against Bangladesh in Multan in November. Zeeshan, Basit’s team-mate at PJL, was declared the best bowler of the tournament with 14 wickets.

Gardner top-ranked all-rounder in MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings 

Dubai, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner has grabbed the No.1 position for all-rounders in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after a match-winning performance in the final T20I of the five-match series against India that her team won 4-1.

Gardner, who was named Player of the Match after her effort of 66 not out off 32 balls and a haul of two for 20, has topped the all-rounders’ list for the first time after moving up three spots. She has overtaken West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, India’s Deepti Sharma and New Zealand captain Sophie Devine, who was at the top through the past year.

Gardner, who finished the series with 115 runs and seven wickets, is also up two places to a career-best seventh position among batters and progressed three places to a career-best 14th among bowlers in the latest weekly update that also considers performances in the last match of the West Indies-England series.

Deepti Sharma’s 34-ball 53 against Australia sees her move up three places to 29th in the batting rankings while England’s Nat Sciver and India’s Richa Ghosh have moved up one place each to occupy 15th and 39th positions, respectively. Grace Harris’s unbeaten 64 off 35 deliveries in Mumbai has lifted her 33 places to 61st position.

In the bowling rankings, England seamer Freya Davies has moved up 23 places to 26th position after a haul of three for two against the West Indies while Australia’s Darcie Brown is up six places to joint-33rd in the list. England’s Issy Wong (up 25 places to 77th) and Windies off-spinner Karishma Ramharack (up five places to 80th) are others to make notable gains.
