Lahore, Dr. Amjad Saqib, Chairman of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Founder of Akhuwat Foundation, has emphasized the sufficiency of resources within the country, noting that the challenge lies in their proper utilization. His comments were part of a speech at the degree awarding ceremony of Punjab University’s School of Economics.
According to University of Punjab, the event, which took place at Faletti’s Hotel in Lahore on Sunday, saw Dr. Saqib address an audience that included former Finance Minister Dr. Hafeez A. Pasha, university officials, the President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, faculty, students, and parents. Dr. Saqib spoke about the societal imbalances caused by unequal wealth distribution and stressed the importance of living within one’s means. He urged economists to foster entrepreneurship and link economic knowledge with ethical practices to transform society.
Former Finance Minister Pasha shared optimistic views on Pakistan’s economic trajectory, citing positive signs such as a robust stock exchange, a strengthening currency, and profitable banks. He projected further economic stability post-elections. Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, and Kashif Anwar from the Lahore Chamber of Commerce discussed the significance of education and the university’s role in economic stability. Dean Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry congratulated the graduates, underlining the importance of education in today’s competitive world.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees to 141 students who graduated in programs ranging from BS Economics to MPhil and Ph.D.
