Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized a commemorative event at the Josh Malihabadi Library to mark the sixth death anniversary of renowned fiction writer, translator, and scholar Asif Farrukhi. The event was presided over by celebrated poet Zehra Nigah.
According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the event featured speeches from prominent personalities including Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmed Shah, writer Noor ul Huda Shah, poet Dr. Fatima Hasan, senior journalist Pirzada Salman, and others, with participation from renowned critic Nasir Abbas Nayyar and Indian novelist Khalid Javed via video link. The proceedings, attended by numerous literary and social figures, were conducted by Inam Nadeem.
In her address, Zehra Nigah described Asif Farrukhi as more than a literary figure, recalling personal memories and emphasizing his role as a remarkable combination of affection, learning, friendship, and humanism. Muhammad Ahmed Shah highlighted Farrukhi’s ability to unite writers from various backgrounds and his lasting impact on literature and society.
Khalid Javed shared his personal and literary bond with Farrukhi, praising his efforts in publishing and translation. Nasir Abbas Nayyar noted Farrukhi’s contributions across various domains, emphasizing his intellectual vision and literary insight. Other speakers celebrated Farrukhi’s role as a bridge between languages and cultures, and his enduring influence on contemporary Urdu literature.
