Karachi: Hosts Pakistan displayed a commanding performance with a seven-wicket victory against Thailand in the opening warm-up match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier. The win set an assertive tone for Pakistan, led by captain Fatima Sana, as they prepare for the upcoming six-team tournament.
Opting to bowl first, Pakistan’s strategy paid off immediately. Captain Fatima Sana struck early, dismissing Thailand’s opener Thipatcha Putthawong. The spinners capitalized on familiar conditions, restricting Thailand’s batting lineup effectively.
Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal claimed the wicket of Nannapat Koncharoenkai, while off-spinner Rameen Shameem took two wickets, further weakening Thailand’s position. Nashra Sandhu’s impressive four-wicket haul dismantled the lower order, limiting Thailand to a total of 78.
In response, Pakistan’s openers Shawaal Zulfiqar and Gull Feroza established a solid foundation, scoring 51 runs together before choosing to retire out. Thailand’s Suleeporn Laomi managed to take the wicket of Muneeba Ali, but Aliya Riaz and Sidra Amin secured the win for Pakistan with seven wickets remaining.
The victory highlights Pakistan’s readiness and strategic advantage as they move forward in the tournament, while Thailand remains focused on achieving their goal of qualifying for their first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
