Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi’s Outreach Centers Achieve Top SafeCare Certification

Nairobi, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) has announced that ten of its outreach medical centers have received the highest level of SafeCare certification, signifying their adherence to the most rigorous healthcare standards. This recognition highlights the centers’ commitment to providing top-quality care across various medical and non-medical aspects.

According to The Aga Khan University, the SafeCare certification process involves a comprehensive audit of facilities against more than 650 standards across 13 categories, accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care External Evaluation Association (ISQuaEEA). The outreach centers underwent this audit in April 2024, and all achieved a Level 5 certification—the highest possible mark, reflecting exceptional quality of care.

Khurram Jamal, Chief Operations Officer of AKUHN Outreach Network, stated, “Our centers went through a rigorous audit to evaluate their performance against the set SafeCare Standards. Achieving a level 5 certification across the board demonstrates our highest level of performance and commitment to excellence.”

The centers that received this prestigious certification include Akai Medical Centre, Kenol Medical Centre, Peponi Specialty and Executive Clinic, Karen Specialty and Executive Clinic, Roysambu Dialysis and Medical Centre, Mountain View Medical Centre, Eastleigh Medical Centre, Ruiru Medical Centre, and Narok Medical Centre.

Rashid Khalani, CEO of AKUH, N, expressed future goals, stating, “Following this milestone, we will now begin the certification process for another set of centers. Our goal is to ensure that all our centers are SafeCare certified in the near future, maintaining our dedication to quality in every aspect of our operations.”

This achievement is part of AKUH, N’s broader commitment to quality and excellence in healthcare, underscored by a series of international accreditations. The hospital was the first in the region to receive JCI hospital accreditation in 2013, and it has maintained this standard with reaccreditations every three years. It was also recognized for its laboratory services by the College of American Pathologists in 2018 and has received JCI certifications as a center of excellence for the management of heart attacks in 2020 and stroke management in 2021, the first for Sub-Saharan Africa in both categories.

This string of achievements affirms AKUH, N’s role as a leading healthcare provider in the region, committed to delivering the highest standards of care across all its facilities.
