Punjab University Hosts Seminar on Educational Philosophies of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Contemporary Context

Lahore, The Faculty of Islamic Studies at Punjab University, in collaboration with the Institute of Islamic Studies, Seerat Chair, and SOS Foundation, recently organized a seminar titled ‘Education and Training of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Modern Institutions’. The event explored the relevance of the Prophet’s teachings in the context of modern educational challenges and globalization.

According to University of the Punjab, the seminar brought together distinguished scholars and educators, including Prof Dr. Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, and Dr. Shaista Sohail, former Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). They discussed how the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) could inform current educational practices and policies.

Dr. Hammad Lakhvi emphasized that the Prophet’s life serves as a guiding light, asserting that success in this world and the hereafter can be achieved by adhering to his teachings. Prof Dr. Asim Naeem addressed the impact of modernization and globalization on higher education institutions, highlighting the new challenges in educational objectives, curricula, and teaching methods.

Dr. Shaista Sohail introduced the objectives of the SOS Foundation and reiterated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is considered the best exemplar for humanity by divine declaration. Dr. Hamid Ashraf Hamdani cited verses and hadiths underscoring the significance of education in Islamic teachings, describing the Prophet’s educational and training approaches as timeless.

Taha Qureshi, Founder Chairman of the Forum for International Relations Development, UK, delved into the educational policy of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), advocating for necessary reforms to meet contemporary educational needs. The seminar concluded with several recommendations, such as revising curricula, enhancing teacher training, integrating the Prophet’s biography into all levels of education, establishing more Seerat Chairs in universities, and promoting research on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as academic subjects.

The event highlighted a collective aspiration to align modern educational systems with the ethical and educational paradigms exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), ensuring that his teachings continue to influence and enrich contemporary education.
