Pakistani Ambassador Expresses Hope for Aafia Siddiqui’s Release Ahead of Her Sister’s Visit to U.S. Jail

Karachi, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement, is scheduled to visit her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui at FMC Carswell Jail in the United States next week. This meeting comes as Pakistani officials express renewed interest in negotiating Dr. Aafia’s release.

According to Aafia Movement, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui departed for the United States on Wednesday, May 25, accompanied by Dr. Aafia’s lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith. Prior to the scheduled jail visit, Dr. Fauzia and Smith are engaging in a series of significant events and meetings across various U.S. cities. During this trip, they met with Masood Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to America, who subsequently highlighted on X (formerly Twitter) the potential diplomatic leverage for Aafia Siddiqui’s release. Ambassador Khan emphasized the symbolic importance of her freedom following successful peace negotiations with the Taliban, describing it as a “gift to win hearts and minds.”

The Aafia Movement’s spokesperson, Muhammad Ayub, expressed gratitude for the ambassador’s support and emphasized the community’s high expectations that the Pakistani embassy will facilitate Dr. Fauzia’s forthcoming meeting with her sister. Ayub also underscored the broader diplomatic efforts anticipated by supporters to secure Dr. Aafia’s release and return to Pakistan, noting the significance it would hold for the nation.
