Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Reclamation of Karachi’s Parks and Playgrounds

Karachi, The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong demand for the removal of encroachments and unauthorized political offices from parks and playgrounds across Karachi, advocating for the restoration of these areas to their original intended use.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Vice Chairman Abdul Hakim Quaid emphasized the urgent need to reclaim over 150 parks and sports fields currently subjected to illegal occupation and misuse, including “china cutting” — a term used locally for unauthorized land subdivision and resale. He highlighted that these encroachments often have the backing of influential entities and are sometimes protected by local law enforcement, exacerbating the challenge.

Quaid’s statement detailed the detrimental effects of these occupations on the city’s youth, who are deprived of essential recreational spaces and are forced to resort to playing in streets and alleys, potentially leading to negative behaviors. He also criticized the local government’s failure to manage and maintain these public assets, contributing to the city’s decline into neglect and disarray.

The PDP leader called on the government to take immediate action to address these issues, including the establishment of new sports and recreational facilities to promote healthy activities among the youth. He also touched on broader urban issues such as air pollution, lack of greenery, and the overall decline in public space quality, labeling Karachi a “concrete city” in need of significant urban renewal.
