Lahore, In a significant gesture of international cooperation, Zhao Shiren, the Chinese Consul General in Lahore, announced a new scholarship initiative for students of the International Relations Department at Government College University Lahore. This announcement was made during the department’s Annual Dinner, where Zhao spoke about the deep-rooted ties between China and Pakistan and the importance of education in fostering these relations.
According to Government College University, the scholarship aims to support the academic and personal growth of IR students and underscores the value placed on their potential contributions to Pakistan-China relations. The Consul General’s announcement came as he highlighted the upcoming visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to China, which he described as crucial for enhancing practical collaboration and advancing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Zhao also used this opportunity to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, noting Pakistan’s status as the first Muslim country to recognize China. He commended Pakistan for its historical support and reflected on the mutual benefits of continued partnership and understanding.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, also speaking at the event, extended condolences to nations mourning the recent loss of the Iranian President, an event that affected the original schedule of the dinner. She expressed her appreciation for the Consul General’s presence, highlighting it as an honor for the institution. Prof. Bashir encouraged students to leverage their education for personal growth and societal improvement, echoing the sentiments of unity and cooperation voiced by the Consul General.
