Pakistan Bolsters Coaching Staff for T20 World Cup, Appoints Gary Kirsten as White-ball Coach

Lahore, In preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan Cricket has announced significant updates to their coaching lineup, including the appointment of renowned former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten as the new white-ball coach. Kirsten, along with two additional coaching appointments, is set to steer Pakistan through a series of challenges in the highly anticipated tournament hosted by the USA and West Indies.

According to International Cricket Council, Kirsten will officially begin his tenure next week, just in time to lead the team in a four-match T20I series against England. This series is crucial for Pakistan as it serves as the final preparation before the World Cup. Pakistan finds itself in a competitive Group A, which includes arch-rival India, Canada, Ireland, and the USA. To bolster their chances, Pakistan Cricket has also enlisted Simon Helmot as the new fielding coach and David Reid as the mental performance coach, who will support Kirsten in navigating the team through the tournament.

Gary Kirsten expressed enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing the talent and potential within the Pakistan squad. “I’m truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men’s cricket team. It’s an honor to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I’m eager to contribute to their success on the international stage,” Kirsten remarked. He highlighted the blend of a new administration and motivated players as a pivotal moment for Pakistan cricket, particularly with the upcoming World Cup as a platform to demonstrate their prowess.

Kirsten also stressed the importance of teamwork, strategic planning, and support within the team to overcome the stiff competition from 19 other teams vying for the title. He shared his anticipation for returning to international coaching, focusing on developing player skills and achieving team goals.

Pakistan’s campaign at the T20 World Cup will kick off against co-hosts USA in Dallas on June 6, followed by a highly anticipated match against India in New York on June 9, promising an exciting start to their quest for a second T20 World Cup title.
