Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore hosted a series of events, including an awareness walk, a seminar, and a blood donation camp, to commemorate World Thalassemia Day. The events aimed to boost public knowledge about thalassemia and encourage efforts to make the country free of the disease.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the awareness walk was led by Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, starting from the office of the Vice-Chancellor and concluding at the UVAS main lawn. The walk saw active participation from a large number of faculty members and students. During the seminar, which was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, the efforts of the UVAS Blood Donor Society were highlighted. The society has been pivotal in raising awareness about thalassemia as a volunteer group.
Resource persons from the Noor Thalassemia Foundation and Faizan Global Relief Fund, Dr Haseeb Ahmad and Dr Sajid respectively, contributed as speakers at the seminar, discussing advancements and challenges in the fight against thalassemia. The event concluded with the Vice-Chancellor presenting shields and certificates to the resource persons, recognizing their contributions.
