University of Sindh Hosts Exhibition on Pakistani Literature in English

Jamshoro, The Institute of English Language and Literature at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, hosted the “Pakistani Literature in English Expo 2024,” attracting over 1000 students and showcasing the rich tradition of Pakistani Anglophone literature.

According to University of Sindh, the expo was organized by Dr. Waseem Hassan Malik and featured poster presentations by students of BS (Literature) third year and MA (Previs) programs. The event highlighted individual authors and included a diverse array of books and creative writings such as poetry and short stories by Pakistani writers in English. Dr. Malik emphasized the expo’s goal of deepening student and scholarly understanding of the origins, development, themes, and contemporary issues in Pakistani English literature.

Director of the Institute, Dr. Abdul Fatah Soomro, noted that the event provided a valuable learning opportunity for students to engage directly with the works and techniques of prominent English-language writers from Pakistan. He praised the efforts of both the students and the faculty in bringing the exhibition to life and reiterated the institute’s commitment to fostering educational events that promote literary appreciation.

Dr. Farida Yasmin Panhour, a professor at the department, highlighted the unique position of the Institute in hosting and conducting critical research on Pakistani literary figures across various genres. The exhibition opened with remarks from faculty members Dr. Tariq Hasan Imrani, Dr. Ghulam Ali Barro, and others, and concluded with a ceremony where participants received certificates of appreciation.
