Turbat University Honors Renowned Balochi Poet Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi with Literary and Musical Tribute

Turbat, The Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC) at the University of Turbat hosted a commemorative event on Sunday, celebrating the life and works of the late Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi, a distinguished writer and poet of the Balochi language. The day featured a combination of literary discussions and musical performances, drawing a diverse crowd including academics, business leaders, and cultural aficionados.

According to University of Turbat, the event included a panel discussion moderated by Sadiq Saba, a faculty member at IBLC. Discussants such as Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Languages, Dr. Raheem Mehr, Controller of Examinations at the University of Gwadar, and Dr. Ghafoor Shad, Assistant Professor at IBLC, explored various facets of Hashmi’s literary contributions and his impact on Balochi literature. The discussions illuminated the poet’s profound influence on cultural and linguistic preservation.

The commemoration concluded with a musical program that set some of Hashmi’s poetry to music, performed by notable Balochi singers Arif Baloch and Shah Jahan Dawoodi. The audience was deeply engaged, celebrating the enduring legacy of Hashmi’s work. In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat, as well as to the faculty, administration, and all attendees for their role in honoring the memory of Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi.
