Tando Adam, The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), led by President Rana Gulzar, has called on the British government to disclose the final resting place of Surahiya Badshah, a prominent figure in the Indian Independence War. The party emphasizes the importance of recognizing and integrating the histories of national heroes like Surahiya Badshah into Pakistan’s educational curriculum and has proposed March 20, the day of Badshah’s martyrdom, be observed as a public holiday.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, the appeal for information on Surahiya Badshah’s burial comes with a broader request to reevaluate historical narratives within Pakistan, particularly those relating to the struggle for independence. The PDP insists that the younger generation should be educated about the sacrifices made by figures such as Badshah, arguing for a re-examination of his case and others like it, akin to the reconsideration of the trial and execution of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
The party also highlighted the Sindh Assembly’s rejection of the Horr Act imposed by British rulers, suggesting this as an opportunity to honor the legacy of Surahiya Badshah and other Hur Mujahideen who fought against British colonialism until Pakistan’s independence in 1947. The PDP demands that Surahiya Badshah’s contributions, as well as the role of Sindh in the freedom movement, be duly recognized and celebrated.
The PDP’s call to action was made during a demonstration held at the Tando Adam Press Club to commemorate the martyrdom of Surahiya Badshah, attended by party leaders, workers, and members of civil society. This demonstration underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring that Pakistan’s history reflects the valor and sacrifices of its true heroes.
