Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Pakistan Clinch Victories in U19 CWC 2024 Day 6 Encounters

Kimberley, On the sixth day of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Pakistan emerged victorious in their respective matches against Namibia, Scotland, and Nepal. These low-scoring games were highlighted by strong bowling performances and crucial batting displays.

According to International Cricket Council, Sri Lanka faced a challenging start in Kimberley, being bowled out for 133 against Namibia. However, they made a strong comeback with the ball, securing a 77-run win. Namibia’s bowling attack was initially effective, but Sri Lanka’s Supun Waduge stood out with an unbeaten 56. Sri Lanka’s bowlers, including Garuka Sanketh and Vishwa Lahiru, then dismantled Namibia’s batting, limiting them to 56, their second-lowest total in U19 World Cup history.

In Potchefstroom, West Indies recorded their first win in the tournament against Scotland. Scotland’s openers Jamie Dunk and Adi Hegde provided a solid start, but West Indies’ Nathan Sealy and Isai Thorne turned the tide with key wickets. West Indies’ early batting struggle in the chase was overcome by a crucial partnership between Mavendra Dindyal and Jordan Johnson, and a strong finish from Jewel Andrew, who scored a quick half-century.

Pakistan’s match against Nepal in East London saw a balanced contest. Nepal’s promising start was curbed by Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Arafat Minhas and Ali Asfand. Nepal’s tailenders, including Subash Bhandari and Aakash Chand, contributed to reaching a near 200 total. Pakistan’s cautious opening in the run chase was followed by a mid-innings slump, but a steady partnership between Azan Awais and Ahmad Hassan guided them to a five-wicket victory.

These matches displayed the critical moments that define the spirit of the U19 Cricket World Cup, with teams showcasing resilience and skill to turn the tide in their favor.
