Bas de Leede Crowned ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year 2023

Amsterdam, Dutch cricketer Bas de Leede has been named the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year for 2023, joining the ranks of previous Dutch winner Ryan ten Doeschate. This recognition comes as a testament to de Leede’s exceptional performances during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier and the main tournament in India.

According to International Cricket Council, de Leede’s contributions were pivotal in a landmark year for Dutch cricket. The Netherlands made a remarkable comeback in the one-day game, securing a spot in the Cricket World Cup after competing against teams like Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Scotland. Notably, de Leede’s impressive batting, including a significant century against Scotland in the qualifier, played a crucial role in this achievement.

In the World Cup, de Leede emerged as a vital member of the Dutch bowling line-up, taking 16 wickets in eight outings. His performance included a four-wicket haul against Pakistan and multiple two-wicket and three-wicket hauls. He also added valuable runs with the bat, making a half-century against Pakistan.

He joined an elite group of players who have scored a century and taken a five-wicket haul in a One Day International. De Leede’s crucial wickets and his awe-inspiring 123 from 92 deliveries significantly contributed to the Netherlands’ victory, underscoring his all-round capabilities.
