Bahawalpur, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed a public gathering in Bahawalpur, Punjab, emphasizing the party’s commitment to serving the people amidst Pakistan’s economic crisis. He detailed the PPP’s 10-point economic contract, focusing on increasing wages, enhancing education, healthcare, and housing initiatives, and providing direct financial assistance to farmers, laborers, and the youth.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Chairman Zardari’s speech highlighted the PPP’s electoral campaign driven by ‘Jiyalas’ (party workers) nationwide. He reflected on the party’s history under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, stressing the need for a government focused on the common people. Zardari’s key promises included doubling wages within five years, establishing IT universities and free healthcare institutions starting with South Punjab, and building three million homes nationwide, prioritizing women’s ownership.
Chairman Zardari also announced plans to expand the Benazir Income Support Programme, introduce interest-free loans for women, and launch the ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ and ‘Benazir Kissan Card’ for direct financial aid to laborers and farmers. He emphasized the introduction of a ‘Youth Card’ and establishment of ‘Youth Centers’ in each district, along with the ‘Bhook Mitao Programme’ to combat hunger.
Addressing the youth, Zardari revealed plans for financial assistance and skill development. He criticized other political parties for their pursuit of power and personal vendettas, contrasting them with the PPP’s focus on addressing inflation, poverty, and unemployment. He asserted the PPP’s readiness to govern for the poor and laborers, expressing confidence in the party’s triumph in the elections across all provinces, including Punjab.
The Chairman urged party workers to campaign vigorously, portraying the election as a critical moment for the country. He concluded by endorsing PPP candidates, including Ali Hasan Gilani and Hafiz Hussain from Bahawalpur, and welcoming Zafar Warraich as a new candidate from Rahimyar Khan.
