PCB Introduces New Rules for President’s Trophy Grade-I to Enhance Competition

Lahore, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the introduction of new playing conditions for the four-day cricket President’s Trophy Grade-I. The modifications are part of a trial to make the tournament more competitive and result-oriented, including a significant change to limit the first innings of teams to 80 overs.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, these changes aim to improve scoring rates in domestic cricket, encourage an attacking style of play, and align with modern cricket standards. This experimental approach will enable the PCB to gather data and compare the competitive standards of this tournament with those played under traditional first-class rules.

At the end of the tournament, the PCB plans to gather feedback from all participants to evaluate the effectiveness of these rules. The cricketing community, including fans and pundits, is urged to be patient in assessing the outcomes of this domestic tournament, which is being held after a four-year hiatus.

Key changes introduced by the PCB for this tournament include:

– Rolling: After the toss, the captain of the batting side can request a pitch rolling for not more than 7 minutes, provided the request is made within 5 minutes of the toss.

– Hours of Play; Minimum Overs Requirement: All matches in the tournament will have a first innings restricted to 80 overs. The second innings will not have such a restriction.

– Points System: If a captain decides to declare or forfeit his team’s first innings before completing 80 overs, the bowling side will be awarded bowling bonus points.

The PCB will make a decision on the continuation of these revisions after the conclusion of the tournament, based on the assessment of their impact on the competition’s quality and player development.
