SAPM Mushaal Mullick Condemns Indian Supreme Court’s Decision on Kashmir as Human Rights Violation

Islamabad, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on human rights and women empowerment, Mushaal Hussein Mullick, has criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, labeling it as the most significant violation of human rights.

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, Mullick expressed her views at a seminar titled “Freedom, Equality and Justice for All,” jointly organized by the International Islamic University (IIUI) and Parliamentary Commission for Human Rights. The event, held at IIUI’s new campus, saw Mullick highlighting concerns over human rights violations in regions like Gaza and Kashmir, emphasizing the international debate sparked by the use of force to suppress movements of human freedom.

At the seminar, Mr. Justice Dr. Muhammad Syed Anwer of the Federal Shariat Court in Islamabad praised IIUI’s role in supporting human rights. He detailed the concept of human rights in Islam and commended the university for organizing the event, which saw active participation from students, faculty, and human rights activists.

Dr. Muhammad Raheem Awan, Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, pointed out the human rights violations in Palestine and Kashmir, noting the lack of global attention to these atrocities. Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Rector of IIUI, discussed the importance of freedom, equality, and justice as the founding pillars of civilized nations, emphasizing the role of educational institutions in promoting human rights awareness.

Mr. Muhammad Shafique Chaudhry, Executive Director of the Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights, reflected on the enduring relevance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He called for greater attention to human rights protection and promotion worldwide, highlighting the crucial role of academic institutions in spreading awareness.

Dr. Noor Fatima, Associate Professor at IIUI, underscored the need for global solidarity in advancing human rights. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing societal challenges, empowering marginalized communities, and promoting inclusivity.

The seminar concluded with unanimous condemnation of human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir. The speakers demanded the reversal of India’s actions on August 5, 2019, and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The event was attended by media personalities, women’s rights activists, politicians, faculty members, and a large number of students.
