Karachi, Following the devastating fire at a private shopping mall on Rashid Minhas Shaheed Road in the Gulistan-Johar area, members of the Pakistan Peace Council, including General Secretary Mufti Muhammad Adnan Madani, social leader Aslam Khan Farooqui, and Barrister Hira Shah, have criticized the Sindh government’s response to the tragedy. The government’s decision to seal the property has been described as an insensitive action, exacerbating the suffering of the victims.
According to PAKISTAN AMN COUNCIL, the group condemned the Sindh government’s actions as inadequate and insensitive to the plight of those affected by the fire. The Council argued that the caretaker government of Sindh should bear responsibility for the financial losses and loss of life resulting from the incident, citing a failure to ensure adequate safety measures at the shopping mall. They called for immediate reopening of the malls, financial compensation for the victims, and quality medical treatment for those injured.
The Council’s statement highlights the need for government accountability and support for victims in the aftermath of such disasters. They stressed that instead of using the victims’ assets to cover up administrative incompetence, the government should focus on aiding those affected and preventing similar incidents in the future.
