Lahore, The Pakistan Women A cricket team has showcased significant growth and potential in their recent series against West Indies Women A and Thailand Women Emerging. The series, held in Lahore from October 24 to November 11, comprised three one-day games and five T20s, providing the Pakistani team with essential game time and exposure. The matches were played at Ghani Glass Institute and Gaddafi Stadium.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the series underlined the PCB’s dedication to creating a pathway for women’s cricket and closing the gap between international and domestic levels. The one-day series against West Indies Women A concluded in favor of the visitors, with a 2-1 score. Notably, Pakistan’s Rameen Shamim and Anosha Nasir emerged as joint-highest wicket-takers, claiming six wickets each. Rameen’s impressive bowling figures of 4-13 in the third one-day were a standout performance.
In the T20 format, Pakistan Women A team demonstrated their strength by winning the tri-nation series final against West Indies Women A, finishing the series unbeaten. Shawaal Zulfiqar, an 18-year-old opener, emerged as the top-scorer and the player of the series, amassing 106 runs in three matches.
Rameen Shamim, alongside Omaima Sohail, led the team as joint-highest wicket-takers in the tri-series, each taking five wickets. Omaima also contributed significantly with the bat, playing a crucial role in the final.
Pakistan Women A continued their winning streak in the two-match T20 series against Thailand Women Emerging, with Omaima Sohail again leading in both runs and wickets. Omaima and Saima Malik topped the wicket-taking charts, each claiming three wickets, with Omaima recording the best individual bowling figures in the series.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, head coach Mohsin Kamal highlighted the importance of the series in developing players’ skills and experience. He praised the contributions of players like Rameen Shamim, Saima Malik, Anosha Nasir, and Omaima Sohail. Kamal also emphasized the significance of such tours in preparing for major ICC events and for nurturing upcoming talent in the country’s cricket landscape.
