Karachi, September 18, 2023 (PPI-OT): In a ground-breaking move, the Pakistan Society of Otorhinolaryngology has officially recognized Audiology, Speech, and Language Therapy as integral components of their services. This recognition was celebrated during the 1st Otocon Conference’s Pre-Conference workshop titled “Diagnostic Audiological Assessment with Hands-On Training,” held at Indus Hospital and Health Network on September 7, 2023.

The workshop was a resounding success, with a full house of enthusiastic participants. Dr. Zafar Zaidi, CEO of Indus Hospital and Health Network, and Dr. Ashar Alam from the Medical Directorate, acknowledged the importance of these services and IHHN’s support in this regard.

The course faculty, including Dr. Anjum Naveed, Anam Madhani, Tabassum Naz, Zeba Ashraf, Mohsin Malik, and M. Javed, provided valuable insights into the Auditory Pathway, Newborn Hearing screening, BERA, PTA with masking, Impedance Testing, and Speech Audiometry. Hands-on training in PTA, Impedance testing, and Newborn Hearing Screening, complete with clinical interpretations, followed the presentation sessions.

The workshop received an esteemed audience, including committee members of the Pakistan Society of Otorhinolaryngology and renowned ENT specialists from across the city. The presence of figures like Prof. Dr. Ausaf, Prof. Shaheen Malik, Dr. Ahmed Nawaz, Dr. Asif Arain, Dr. Nabeel Humayun, Dr. Razzaq Dougar, Dr. Shoukat, and Dr. Shakil Akhter added to the significance of this milestone event.
