CM Chaudhry Parvez Elahi chairs 8th provincial cabinet meeting 

Lahore, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi presided over the 8th Provincial Cabinet meeting at CM Office today in which it was decided that a single authority will monitor all the programmes for the social protection of the weak segments in the society along with ensuring social protection of the people.

The Punjab Cabinet granted approval of Punjab Social Protection Policy 2022. The Chief Minister stated that the strategy to provided welfare to the masses will be ensured through the first consolidated Social Protection Policy of Punjab. The ongoing 129 social protection programmes are being run under different departments in Punjab. The public welfare programmes will ensured by a single authority under the Social Protection Authority.

The Punjab Cabinet granted approval to merge Zakat and Usher, Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal departments and with the merger of three departments, a single department of Social Protection will be established. The Cabinet paid tributes to Chairman PTI Imran Khan for collecting funds for the flood affectees by telethon. The cabinet also lauded the exemplary services of Dr. Sania Nishter, Head of Punjab Ehsaas Programme being rendered in the flood relief programme.

CM acknowledged that Imran Khan feels the pain of the sufferings of common man. CM revealed that the Punjab government has distributed Rs. 5 billion among the flood affectees Uptil now adding that payments to 36 thousand affected families have been disbursed.

Financial assistance has also been extended to the flood affectees for the construction of their houses. The Punjab government ensured settlement of the flood affectees through the amount being collected through telethon of Imran Khan and by its own resources.

The Chief Minister denounced that the federal government did not pay a single penny for the assistance of flood affectees of Punjab. The Punjab government did not receive any assistance from the foreign aid and goods being sent for the flood affectees. Punjab government protested over the discriminatory attitude of the federal government earlier and is protesting even now.

CM apprised that the Sindh government did not share data of the flood affectees despite repeated reminders adding that the Punjab government has reminded the Sindh government for the third time for sharing their data after undergoing a complete survey of flood affectees so that the government can provide assistance to the real deserving. The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 1 billion to assist the flood affectees of Sindh.

CM maintained that we want the Sindh government to provide authentic data at the earliest so that the deserving can receive his due right and share. CM highlighted that the direct distribution programme through the Bank of Punjab without any interference is an example of its own.

Punjab holds the distinction to constitute first disaster release management system. Dr. Nasia Nishter, DG PDMA presented a comprehensive briefing to the Punjab government about the assistance programme being provided to the flood affectees.

Those families reducing their children upto two will be awarded grant by linking family planning with Punjab Ehsaas Programme. The World Bank will provide grant of 130 million dollars for the success of family planning programme. The Punjab Cabinet expressed its serious reservations over the attitude of federal government for not paying the amount of universal health insurance programme and demanded from the federal government to soon release pending dues of Punjab.

The cabinet granted approval for the establishment of Khatamun Nabieen (PBUH) University in Lahore and also allocated funds of Rs. 1 billion for the provision of other facilities. Rs. 1 billion will be disbursed under the Annual Development Programme for the provision of additional facilities in the Khatamun Nabieen (PBUH ) University. VC Block, Mosque and a hostel will be established in the Khatamun Nabieen (PBUH) University located in the Seerat Academy at Upper Mall.

An approval was granted for Rs. 3 billion to construct multi-story parking plaza, overhead bridge and underground passage for the facilitation of devotees visiting Data Darbar. Approval was also granted to incorporate the project in the Annual Development Programme to construct parking plaza, overhead bridge and underground passage for the pedestrians near Data Darbar.

The parking facility of more than 400 vehicles will be available in the parking plaza. Approval was granted for the induction on the approved vacant 580 posts from grade 5 to 15 in the Special Education Department and for 839 new posts of junior and senior special education teachers to reduce the difference in the percentage of teachers and students in the Special Education Department. It was also decided to do ring fencing of the budget of Special Education Department.

A high level ministerial committee has been constituted to review the matter of regularizing the services of teachers in the school education department. The committee will comprise senior Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal, Mian Mahmood Ur Rashid, Murad Ras, Hashim Dogar, Asif Nakai and others. The committee will submit its recommendations to the cabinet soon.

Approval was also granted to make induction on 632 posts in the Labour and Human Resource department, on the 1784 posts for the secretaries of union council in the Local government and Community Development, for inducting Excise inspectors in the Excise and Taxation department and for making induction on the 416 approved vacant posts from grade 5 to grade 15 in Excise and Taxation department. Approval was also accorded to make induction for Assistant Food Controller, food Grain Inspectors and Food Grain Supervisors in the food Department.

A high level departmental committee will do induction according to merit as well as rules and regulations. Approval was also granted during the Cabinet meeting to set up state of the art film production studio and cinema complex for the revival of film industry and the scheme was granted ADP approval.

CM on the occasion stated that a film training academy will be established to impart training on film making technique likewise pattern of India adding that we want to magnify the glorious culture of Punjab through film. The professional services of Iranian and Turkish experts of film making will be availed. The Pakistani films becoming a glory of Indian cinema houses is appreciable.

The cabinet also granted approval to accord Mandi Shah Jewan the status of new tehsil of district Jhang. Shah Jewan will become the 5th tehsil of district Jhang. Approval was also granted for the annual grant in aid for Alzheimer Pakistan, amendments in the section 187 (2) and (4) of Punjab Local Government Act 2022 and Amendments in rule 5 of sub-section 1 of Appointment and Conditions of Service Rules 2018.

Approval was also granted to appoint Chief Executive Officer of Cattle Market Company. Civil Hospital Kotla Arb Ali Khan was granted the status of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. CM disclosed that Kotla Arb Ali Khan Hospital will be upgraded from 20 beds to 100 heads.

The cabinet also granted approval of Rs. 25 crore grant for the Journalists Housing Society on 189 kanals in Faisalabad and to transfer 189 kanals of land in the name of Journalists Housing Foundation. CM stated that the Punjab government will fulfil the dream of journalists of Faisalabad for having their own house. CM directed that the transfer work of Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation from RUDA should be completed as soon as possible.

It was decided to review the negative lists of roads for CNG and petrol pumps afresh and approval was granted to purchase 25 new buses amounting to Rs. 40 crore for TEVTA, Senior Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal, Provincial Ministers, Advisors, Special Assistants, Chairpersons Punjab Ehsaas Programme Dr. Sania Nishter, Chief Secretary Abdul Khan Sumbal, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Inspector General of Police Amir Zulfiqar and senior officials attended the meeting.

The Sindh government will provide justice to the family of Dia Bhil, a woman who was brutally murdered in Sanghar district: Surendra Vilasai 

Karachi, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Human Rights, Surendra Vilasai, has said that the Sindh government will provide justice to the family of Dia Bhil, a woman brutally murdered in Sanghar district. The Sanghar police contacted Surendra Vilasai on Thursday and informed him about the progress in the case and informed him that an FIR has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, while some suspects are being arrested and interrogated.

The ongoing investigation in this case is being supervised by DIG Yunus Chandio of Shaheed Benazirabad Division, who has formed a four-member committee under the leadership of DSP Sanjhuru to identify and arrest the main suspect in this case. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 7 days. Surendra Vilasai said that he hopes that the accused involved in the humanitarian incident will be brought to justice very soon.

It should be noted that Dia Bhel belonging to the minority community was brutally killed in a village of Sanghar district last day. After killing the deceased, the hair on his head was cut off and the body was cut with a sharp instrument. After the details of the murder of a woman belonging to the working class surfaced on social media, Surendra Vilasai immediately contacted IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and insisted that the accused involved in the incident be brought to justice immediately.

Daring Not Deprived: Persons with Disabilities 

Rawalpindi, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):A Community Work Project Anniversary of “Daring Not Deprived “was celebrated by NUMS Civic Society in Collaboration of NUMS Department of Psychology. Since 2020, Ms. Saira Javed (Lecturer Clinical Psychology, NDP/ Incharge Psychologist, N-TRC/ Convener Civic Society) has designed and directed a program for the inclusivity of differently abled person in collaboration of the CEO of Saaya Association of Disabled People Islamabad.

The “DND” event was held to recognize the contributions made by the students of the Department of Psychology who are also a part of NUMS Civic Society in highlighting the emerging challenges faced by differently abled individuals and helping them out. It adhered to the SDG 3 for “good health and wellbeing”, SDG 4 “quality education, SDG 8 “decent employment, and economic growth” as well as SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”.

DND Journey has been presented by Students from the Department of Psychology. The project representatives from NUMS Civic Society from the Department of Public Health (Public Health Social Worker), Department of Psychology (Mental Health Social Worker) and Department of Allied Health Sciences (Medical Health Social Worker) had presented future plans.

The Chief Guest Mr. Asim Zafar (CEO Saaya Association) highly acknowledged the efforts of NUMS faculty and students in highlighting the needs of the differently abled individuals and eradicating associated stigma and taboo faced by them.

He further shared his personal experiences and elaborated the vision mission of Saaya Association to motivate new members of NUMS Civic Society. Where, Mr. Zafar specifically discussed the sufferings of polio patients, how his has made it possible for people with different impairments to access opportunities where they can reach their full potential and has carried out several wheelchair distributions ceremonies and training sessions for the general public, differently abled people and their families.

Lastly, he expressed his gratitude to NUMS for providing a ramp facility for wheelchair individuals. The take home message of the event was that we are all unique in our own capacities, and the only gap between the person and his goal is his willingness to learn. At the end, a cake cutting ceremony took place, appreciation certificates from CEO Saaya association were distributed among Daring Not Deprived team members and a NUMS souvenir was presented to the Chief.

16 new startups graduate from National Science and Technology Park at NUST 

Islamabad, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The National Science and Technology Park at NUST held the Graduation Ceremony of the 3rd cohort of its Hatch 8 programme at the NUST main campus on Thursday. As many as 16 startups built upon disruptive ideas have graduated as part of the third cohort.

Hatch 8 is a pre-incubation programme of NSTP, which admits entrepreneurs at the idea stage of their product development and transforms them into viable businesses in due course of time. Mr Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, was the chief guest who felicitated the startups upon graduating from one of the most robust innovation ecosystems in the region.

He was all-praise for NUST for having come up with the game-changing initiative of NSTP, which truly is a breeding ground for innovation. He further said that creativity is the solution to each one of our problems and NSTP is nothing short of a creative powerhouse for innovation. Dr Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector RIC, expressed his utmost pleasure in seeing the increasing number of people stepping forward with their startups, and paving the way for their own betterment and that of the society.

He said that owing to its outstanding accomplishments, NSTP has been making headlines internationally, which is a matter of great pride for the whole nation. Our startups at NSTP, he maintained, are gaining attention from International Investors like Peter Theil and Adam Draper’. He also thanked Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning and Development who initially approved the project of NSTP.

During the course of Hatch 8 Programme, entrepreneurs go through hands-on learning, aimed at inculcating in themselves the entrepreneurial skills and relevant business acumen, all the while nurturing their business ideas. Expert mentorship and coaching is provided to startups during the programme. In addition, the programme offers an array of services, ranging from workshops to boot-camps, free co-working space and access to mentors and investor networks.

The programme culminates at the graduation ceremony, wherein startups present their businesses to an audience comprising local and international experts and investors. Following the graduation, startups can join the Cube 8 Incubation Programme of NSTP. Since its inception in 2021, the Hatch 8 Programme has completed 3 cohorts, with 10 graduates in the first, and 16 each in the second and third cohorts.

The tech startups graduating from the Park, inter alia, span a wide array of themes ranging from Ed-Tech Health tech, and Smart-Tech. Out of the 16 startups, four were given awards for high achievement on the basis of revenue generation, customer base and socio-economic impact. The Innovator award was presented to As-Sira’t, followed by the first and Second Runner-ups being in Lights and Gameotivity respectively. The top performer startup award was given to Bendecrete.

The graduation ceremony was followed by the launch of the Rising Stars Startup Cup, a business competition at NSTP, aimed at helping women and minorities in Pakistan. The competition will be run in collaboration with the US Embassy and Draper University as knowledge partner while Pak Mission Society as the outreach partner.

MOTIVATIONAL TALK FOR CAREER COUNSELING:

The motivational talk for career counselling was organized by Mr. Nohais Mehmood (FILO and Lecturer), Department of English, Faculty of Languages and Literature. The title of the talk was CSS and Role of the English language.

All faculty members of FoLL along with Three hundred students of the Department of English attended the aforementioned motivational talk and interacted with the ASP Hamid Ehsan Warraich, Police Service of Pakistan (50th Common) to understand current market scenarios regarding CSS and how the English language is playing its role in Competitive Examinations and Interviews, the required skills and the criteria for the job.

During this talk, students eagerly participated in the discussion session in order to have exposure to the functioning of Pakistani Bureaucracy. The guest speaker explained to students the importance of their particular degree in CSS and also motivated them to utilize their degree knowledge properly after completion.

The talk concluded with a Question- Answer session. Many of the students asked interesting questions from the Guest speaker on contemporary issues. In the end, Mr. Nohais Mehmood, Faculty Industry Liaison Officer, and Lecturer of English presented a souvenir to Mr. Hamid Ehsan Warraich, Police Service of Pakistan (50th Common).
