50 companies get Fire Safety Awards 

Karachi, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Adoption of fire safety measures at every building by its owner had become all the more important when the state was unable to fulfill its obligations regarding the protection of the lives and properties of people. Governor Sindh M. Kamran Khan Tessori stated this while speaking as the chief guest at the “12th Fire Safety Awards-2022” jointly organized by the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) and Fire Protection Industry of Pakistan (FPIP). He congratulated all the award-winning companies on this occasion and said that people should adopt fire safety measures irrespective of the high cost of such systems that often became unbearable due to high inflation.

On this occasion Engr. Nadeem Ashraf, project head of the event said that around 50 plus companies have been selected for awards on the occasion through a stringent evaluation criterion devised purely on a professional basis. The objective of Fire safety awards is to recognize companies for their best efforts, investment, training, awareness and use of modern technology to control fire accidents and save human lives in such incidents, he added.

President FPIP Imran Taj shed light on the methods and technologies being used the world over to secure residential, commercial, and industrial buildings so as to protect them against any fire incident. President NFEH Muhammad Naeem Qureshi said that his association would continue to provide utmost support to the provincial government to adopt strict fire protection measures by the industries and commercial centers.

IIUI marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Islamabad, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):A cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the world International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held at the university hostels, male campus that was organized university administration on the directions of H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President IIUI for differently abled students.

The ceremony was joined by officials of the university administration, foreigner students hailing from various countries and host elite differently abled students. International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It has been observed with varying degrees of success around the planet.

The 2022 global observance to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was around the overarching theme of innovation and transformative solutions for inclusive development, covering in three different interactive dialogues in the themes of Innovation for disability inclusive development in employment, Innovation for disability inclusive development in reducing inequality and Innovation for disability inclusive development.

The activity participants said that they had great respect for special and disabled people as they had to struggle more to be accepted in our society. They maintained that the abilities they have shown and their participation in activities demands they may be called differently abled persons who are a vital part of social fabric. On the occasion, it was reiterated by the differently abled students that would actively participate in the upcoming extravaganza 2022 and they prove their talent and abilities.

Working together to implement The Climate Nexus of Sustainable Food, Fiber, Energy and biodiversity of healthy ecosystem and prosperity in Pakistan

Lahore, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Punjab organized a seminar on “The Climate Nexus” as post COP27 Implementation plan that took place in Egypt 6-18 November 2022. Students, civil society, private sector organizations and policy makers joined together Tuesday, 29th November, 2022.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Haider, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, welcomed chief guest (Mr. Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Ex-Special assistance to Prime Minister, Food Security and Special Initiative)) Honourable guests (Dr. Saeed Elahi, Ex-Chairman PRCS, Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmad Ali, Dean, faculty of Geosciences) Prof. Dr. Shoukat Iqbal Malik (Director, VIS, Capital University of Science and Technology), Dr Khalid Mahmood (Head Agritech, Middle East and North Africa, Rothamsted Research, England and Vice chair UPSIGN), Eng. Mushtaq Ahmed Gill (TI), CEO, Sawie, Eng. Mujeeb ur Rehman climate smart agriculture expert and researchers joined from Pakistan and other countries.

Dr Adnan Zahid, Assistant Professor/Focal Person, Department of Agronomy, University of the Punjab highlighted the objectives of the seminar as a follow up from the Conference of Parties-27 (COP27). This forum aims for achieving keeping the global temperature under 1.5 C and reduce Greenhouse gasses emissions as part of the Paris agreement.

How the research can help addressing the climate change crisis including achieving objectives of food security, green energy, transport and sustainable housing systems. There is a need to develop indigenous solutions to reduce the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities in developing countries especially in Pakistan. Also support policy guidelines through evidence-based research and knowledge transfer.

The Key note speaker, Dr Khalid Mahmood described the role of United Nation framework convention on climate change and COP27 aims for reducing the Green House Gasses emission and explained the strategies for not increase of temperature more than 1.5 Celsius. He referred the famous quote of U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres, The Humanity has a choice: cooperate or perish.

He elaborated the Sharm el-Sheikh Implementation Plan, COP parties has reached to a position conclusion of establishing a Loss and Damage Fund (LDF)- Santiago Network for LDF, Adaptation Fund-US$230 million and need for a Global transformation – low-carbon investments USD 4-6 trillion a year. The next COP28 will take place in UAE that has agenda for stock taking the outcome.

Chief Guest, Mr. Jamshad Iqbal Cheema and Honourable Guests (Dr Saeed Elahi and Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmad) appreciated the effort of Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and his team for organizing splendid seminar on Climate change and said that biggest threats to the sustainability of the life on the earth is Climate Change.

Climate change affects our life as well as the economy by causing disruption in Earth’s climatic processes such as floods, famines, droughts and cyclones among other natural disasters. Pakistan has gone through a worst floods in summer 2022 and heat earlier in spring time affecting at staple crop of wheat.

Pakistan has been ranked globally in the top ten countries most affected by climate change in the past 20 years (German watch). Pakistan has lost 0.53 percent per unit GDP, suffered economic losses worth approximately US$ 3792.52 million (The Global Climate Risk Index annual report, 2020).

At last, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Haider Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, thanked the chief guest, e speakers and participants for taking part in the seminar. This is a step towards building collaborations to address the climate change crisis especially affecting our food security.

Feeding 225 million people required a joined-up approach working with research, farmers and industry. Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has already joined hand with SAWIE and SACAN for reaching out to farmers for knowledge transfer and capacity building in climate smart agriculture practices.

The SAWIE digital platform that has an App is providing advice to farmers about whether forecast, using remote sensing and satellite applications. We are excited to work together to support knowledge transfer He concluded that today enhanced our knowledge about the COP27 goals and future strategies and funding opportunities on Climate change.

The presentation on Auto steering technology by Eng. Mujeeb Ur Rehman from SACAN highlighted the digital technology and its significance in addressing climate change. At last the panel’s discussion on different aspects of climate changes, its strategies and future aspect broaden your knowledge for overcoming this threat.

Eng. Mushtaq Ahmded Gill CEO SAWIE said, the world is waiting for the second green revolution that will be a digital revolution that will guide farmers from soil health to entire crop management solutions to reduce GHG emissions. We need to work together through engaging our farmers, especially rural youth and women through supporting university links where Punjab University is already taking lead.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari says Sindh is the land of peace and love 

Karachi, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari while congratulating Sindh on celebrating Culture Day falling on 4 December said that conscious and civilized nations never forget their culture, civilization and language.

The founder of Pakistan People’s Party, Quaid Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, established the Ministry of Culture to highlight the cultures of Pakistan. Asif Ali Zardari said that Sindh has always kept its history and culture revered. He said that people of Sindh have never forgotten their heroes who sacrificed their lives while protecting their culture and motherland.

Asif Ali Zardari said that Sindh is a land of peace, love, respect and brotherhood as it has a great culture. He said Sindh is the land of Sufi elders, learned friends and brave people. He said that the people of Sindh should keep their culture alive and should not give place to any kind of extremism on their land.

28,000 federal employees of various ministries who were forced out so far have been reinstated, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for Affected Employees: Dr. Qadir Mandukhel 

Karachi, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The pension of four employees has been completed, the widow has also been given relief, this is the work of our committee, and the people of Balochistan package are on half contract, the people of PTDC are being fired and more people are being recruited, the provincial governments are doing this.

Are Dr. Qadir Mandukhel mentioned the performance of the committee and said that we have seen the case that has been going on for 25 years, the decisions of the employees in APP have been made by their will, all the victims are looking at the employees, and we are looking at 33 ministries.

We have run our committee for eight and a half hours, Secretary Finance and Secretary Law have been reprimanded for absenteeism, and they have been working continuously since October 12. Has given relief, there are not many people in the steel mill but the problems can be solved if the operators are fine, the WAPDA employees who were fired since 2013 have been reinstated.

Message of former President of the State and President of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari on the occasion of International Day of Special Children 

Karachi, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Former President of the State and President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari has said in his message on the occasion of International Day of Special Children that our special children are the basic part of our society and have the right to a dignified place.

He said that Mrs. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had taken practical steps to eradicate polio so that future generations could be saved from physical disabilities. He has directed the Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program and MD Baitul Mal to give special priority to the treatment of special children so that they can stand on their own feet and get the rights they deserve.

The former president said that the government of Pakistan People’s Party paid special attention to the service of special children and it is still one of our main priorities. The former president said that the need is that we pay special attention to them and do not let them suffer from inferiority complex.

He said to pay special attention to special children Therefore, there is a need to create institutions like NICBD where they have the best treatment facilities in the best environment. Asif Ali Zardari said that media and civil society also have to play their role for the welfare of special children.
