A Delegation from Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Capital University

Islamabad, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) visited Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) on December 19th, 2022. The agenda of the meeting was to promote joint academic and R and D activities of mutual interest in accordance with their respective needs and objectives as well as to promote academia-industry linkages.

Dean of Research and Innovation, Prof. Aamer Iqbal Bhatti gave a brief presentation about CUST’s Salient Features, Achievements, Academics, Scholarships, MoUs, Research and Development, and Capacity Building activities.

The house appreciated the efforts of CUST in nation-building and suggested the following points to further enhance its relationships with ICCI and industry for the growth and development of students and society.

CUST and ICCI should focus on arranging seminars for students and present their success stories of notable persons of society.

CUST and ICCI should focus on employment and internship in the industry for graduates.

CUST and ICCI should ensure graduates will have the capability to be entrepreneurs by participating in Expos of ICCI, also by arranging Festivals / Job Fairs at CUST.

CUST may grant scholarships and special seats in engineering programs for industry employees’ and ICCI members’ children.

The house also suggested that to achieve the above-mentioned tasks a Working Group should be created and it will meet at least once a month preferably online. ORIC Office from CUST and Mr. Majid, Secretary ICCI will finalize the Working Group members and initiate further correspondence.

It was also highlighted that HEC/PEC should further encourage universities to adopt 4+1 academic criteria to enable students to spend 4 years in universities and one year in industries for degrees in order to provide them with practical experience in industrial functions.

In the end, the Dean of Research and Innovation presented the Souvenir of CUST to Vice President ICCI and thanked him for visiting CUST. Vice President ICCI, also presented the Souvenir of ICCI to Dean ORIC and discoursed the importance of such meetups/liaisons in the context of strong academic alumni relationships.

Islamia University of Bahawalpur has been declared as the first Hepatitis Free University of Punjab

Bahawalpur, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the first Hepatitis Free University of the Punjab۔ the Governor Punjab Engr. Muhammad Baligh ul Rahman has praised the Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for making IUB hepatitis free University۔

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, in the year 2020 initiated large-scale hepatitis testing, screening and vaccination with the support of the Punjab Government Health Department. Initially, 22000 faculty, employees and students of the university were tested and the vaccination was started.

Today, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the only university in Punjab which is a hepatitis free university. Governor Punjab Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rahman visited the Islamia University of Bahawalpur was informed about the anti-hepatitis campaign conducted in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur during the last three years.

On this occasion, it was informed that all the students are screened for hepatitis at the time of admission in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur all students, teachers and employees of the university are protected from this disease.

The focal person of this campaign in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Medical and Health Division, Dr. Muhammad Usman Cheema, along with senior teachers and senior officials of the university, conducted this campaign.

In this regard, the Governor Punjab has issued directives to all the universities of Punjab to take necessary steps to make hepatitis free universities following the successful model of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

1 in 5 Pakistanis say that the availability of drinking water at their child’s school is bad: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan 

Islamabad, December 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 5 Pakistani say that the availability of drinking water at their child’s school is bad.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country who have school-going children in their household was asked the following question regarding, “On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is “very bad” and 5 is “very good”, how would you rank each of the following services provided to your child by their school?- Availability of drinking water for kids in school” 10% said it is very bad, 9% said it is bad, 15% said the availability of drinking water for kids in school is normal, 44% said that this service is good while only 18% said that it is very good.

Question: “On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is “very bad” and 5 is “very good”, how would you rank each of the following services provided to your child by their school? – Availability of drinking water for kids in school”
