Punjab University IMME Wins All Pakistan Project Competitions

Lahore, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):A group of students from Punjab University Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME) has won two consecutive All Pakistan Students’ Project Competitions. According to a press release, the Students of final year BSc Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (2018 session) presented their final year project in two scientific competitions and won the positions along with cash prizes.

First competition was organized by Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) at Expo Centre Lahore. Students secured third position along with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The second competition “1st PEC CAPSTONE Expo Final Year Projects Competition” was organized by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) at Faletti’s Hotel Lahore. The said competition was held among 173 shortlisted projects from 40 engineering universities across Pakistan.

Group of IMME students once again won the position and here secured second along with a cash prize of worth one lac rupees. It is pertinent to mention here that the only group among several from Punjab University has won the position and that went to IMME. On the occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar praised the students on their hard work and especially appreciated the project supervisor Dr Eng. Muhammad Atif Makhdoom and his innovative idea. The chairman and other members of PEC also congratulated Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar for organizing the event.

Director IMME Prof Dr Mohsin Ali Raza and faculty members admired the efforts of students. In his statement, Dr Raza said that IMME faculty possessed great talent and also had the potential not only to guide students effectively but also to channelize their energies in more a constructive way to get fruitful results. He said that several students have won various competitions at national level in the recent past. He said that IMME faculty unanimously agrees that such contests were very healthy activities that not only impart a sense of competitions among students but also encouraged them to think out of the box and cover extra miles at a faster pace during studies.

UVAS two flood relief volunteer teams departs to flood affected areas Khairpur and Lasbela (Phase-3) 

Lahore, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Monday depart two flood relief volunteer teams in connection with UVAS Flood Relief and Assistance Campaign 2022 (Phase-3) to the flood affected areas including Khairpur and Lasbela (Sindh and Baluchistan). The teams will provide relief items related to shelter, kitchen unit, medicines and hygienic food like dry ration/feed of animals, crop seed packet as well as veterinary services to the livestock farming community.

Before the departure of volunteers’ teams, UVAS arranged a ceremony in the City Campus. Vice-Chancellor University of Education (UE) Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha (SI) presided over the ceremony while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Convener UVAS Flood Relief Management Committee Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz, Chief Executive Officer Forward Solution Animal Health Company Dr Asim Mahmood Khan and deans, directors, chairmen/chairpersons, from different departments, flood relief management committee members, UVAS flood relief volunteer teams members and faculty members were present.

Addressing the audience, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that UVAS always working actively for the betterment of community and accomplished such task smoothly with transparent manner is really appreciable. He advised to forward all your volunteer work to Director Generals Livestock to concerning flood-hit areas. He acknowledged UVAS collective team work in worst flood affected areas especially for the noble cause. He mentioned UVAS playing lead role by serving community services also for the betterment of poor livestock farming community of rural areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS collected Rs 23 million donations in the shape of cash and goods so far under UVAS Flood Relief and Assistance Campaign 2022 (run through social, print and electronic media). He said livestock is the only source of livelihood for the majority of rural population and this year due to destruction by heavy floods, the livestock farming community is facing economic losses. He thanked all the donors who showed their trust in UVAS and playing their vital role for the noble cause. He hoped UVAS Flood Relief volunteer teams providing relief services to Khairpur and Lasbela in befitting manners similarly provided their services in phase-1 and phase-2.

He mentioned Chancellor/Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman, Chairman Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Shahid Munir and Secretary Livestock Muhammad Malik Bhulla acknowledged UVAS philanthropist services for the betterment of humanity as well as for the uplift of livestock farming community. Later Dr Asim Mahmood presented Rs five lakh cheque as a donation to Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad.

Earlier, Convener UVAS Flood Relief Management Committee Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz gave a detailed presentation on UVAS initiatives in various disaster relief activities, flood relief camps and assistance activities (advisory meetings, donors conference, Vice-Chancellor visit in flood affected areas, fund raising, collection of goods, packing etc.) of phase-1 and phase-2.

He also shared that in phase-1 and phase-2 large and small animals (buffalo/cattle, sheep and goat, horse, dog and cat) treated 20775, vaccinated 5785, food/ration packets 380, crop seed packets 175, clothes and shawls 186 and 40 kg animal feed bags 1860 provided among flood victims in Fazilpur, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa Sharif, Rojhan, Charsadda and Layyah with transparent manner. He said UVAS flood relief volunteer teams also distributed other necessary items related to mosquito nets and mats among deserving families of these flood affected areas as well.

1 in 5 Pakistanis claim their house has been previously flooded: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 5 Pakistanis claim their house has been previously flooded.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the following question,” Has your house ever been flooded before?” 20% of the people responded, ‘Yes’ while 80% said ‘No.’ Amongst the people whose house had been flooded before, 26% were from KPK, 26% were from Sindh, 20% belonged to Balochistan and 15% were from Punjab.
