Speaker Sibtain Khan calls on CM Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan met Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his office and discussed legislation and other issues. The CM expressed his concern over drug peddling in educational institutions and vowed that strict legislation will be enacted to stop it. The draft of the Punjab Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 2022 will be finalized soon to make it law after passing from the Punjab assembly as soon as possible, he added. It is the joint responsibility to save the new generation from the menace of drugs; he stressed and pointed out that the foreign ambassadors, including the World Bank, have appreciated the efforts of narcotics control and offered their cooperation.

The CM disclosed that an autonomous agency will be established in Punjab to deal with drugs. Similarly, anti-narcotics courts and district-level anti-narcotics police stations will also be set up, he added. The owners and employees of educational institutions would also be held responsible for the sale and purchase of drugs and those assisting the sale and use of drugs would be brought under the net of the law, he concluded. Sibtain Khan assured full cooperation for the Punjab Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 2022.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 match schedule released 

Dubai, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The top 10 teams in the world will begin their bid for the ultimate prize in T20 cricket when South Africa take on Sri Lanka in the opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Newlands on 10 February, as the match schedule for the biggest ever women’s sporting event in Africa was announced.

Fans can now buy tickets for the 23 matches that will be played across Cape Town, Paarl and Gqeberha in 15 days. The world’s best cricketers will take centre stage for a uniquely African celebration of cricket culminating in a Finals weekend at Newlands Cricket Ground with the winner being crowned on Sunday, 26 February. Tickets prices start at R60, with scholars and pensioners able to avail discounts. Families can make the most of the action with kids under six coming in for free across all the venues.

Bangladesh and Ireland complete the list of participating teams, joining Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in the eighth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be a spectacular celebration for everyone to be a part of.

The final match schedule was released on Monday in a uniquely African event at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town with ICC Ambassador Mithali Raj attending the launch. The T20 World Cup, which is a ground-breaking opportunity for cricket in South Africa, will look to be the most inclusive and accessible cricket tournament ever played in the country, forming part of back-to-back World Cups that will leave a legacy to grow girls’ and women’s participation.

The Western Cape will play host to a bumper opening weekend of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Boland Park will host the first double-header, with England and the West Indies in action in the early match, followed by defending champions Australia taking on New Zealand. The four sub-continent sides will headline the second double-header at Newlands on Sunday as India take on Pakistan and Bangladesh face Sri Lanka.

Former India captain Mithali Raj, who is an ICC Ambassador, said she was really excited about the tournament being held in South Africa.

“The announcement of the schedule takes us one step closer to the Women’s T20 World Cup. This has been a fantastic period for the growth of the women’s game, and I am sure fans in South Africa will be out in huge numbers to support the players.

“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in ICC tournaments over the years and know what they mean to players globally. I can’t wait to watch some fast-paced, high-energy cricket and closely-fought, exciting matches.”

Match officials for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 announced

Dubai, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council has announced the 20 match officials for the First Round and Super 12s stages of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

In total, 16 umpires will officiate across the tournament with Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Kumar Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus having been the umpires in charge of the 2021 final which saw this year’s hosts claim their first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.

It is an experienced group of umpires, with the same 16 selected as last year’s tournament which was held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Chief Referee of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, Ranjan Madugalle, is part of a quartet of former international cricketers who make up the match referees for the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup. Sri Lankan Madugalle is joined by Andrew Pycroft of Zimbabwe, England’s Christopher Broad and Australian David Boon.

Pycroft will take charge of the tournament opener in Geelong on 16 October when Sri Lanka takes on Namibia in the First round with Joel Wilson and Rodney Tucker the umpires in the middle. Paul Reiffel will act as the TV umpire with Erasmus, occupying the role of the fourth umpire.

Erasmus, Tucker and Aleem Dar are all set to appear in their seventh ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with Langton Rusere umpiring in his second World Cup of the year having stood in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022, including acting as reserve umpire for the final.

Rusere will be the TV umpire in place when Australia and New Zealand kick off the Super 12 round on 22 October in Sydney. The match is a replay of the 2021 final and Rusere will be joined by Adrian Holdstock and Dharmasena (on-field) and Richard Illingworth (fourth umpire).

Officials have been named for the entirety of the First Round and Super 12s, with the selections for the semi-finals and final of the tournament to be named in due course.

PCB-Bank Alfalah enter school cricket partnership

 

Lahore, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):In order to revive school cricket across the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board and Bank Alfalah have entered a four-year partnership. The signing ceremony between the two parties was held today at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. As per the partnership agreement, the PCB and Bank Alfalah will jointly organise a school tournament each year in which 120 schools (to be shortlisted by the PCB) will participate.

The PCB and Bank Alfalah will conduct nationwide school drives for making program-based interventions to harness and nurture youth with a strong passion for cricket.

With the growth of the partnership over the four-year period, the school participation will increase to 900 schools across the country as part of PCB’s grand plan of developing and sustaining a quality schools competition that will not only identify but will also nurture and groom future cricket stars.

A total of 105 PCB designated and approved grounds will be used for school cricket tournaments in this four-year period.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “We have entered another exciting partnership for the development of cricket. School cricket was one of our strengths in the years gone by but unfortunately we were not able to sustain organised and effective school cricket systems in recent years.

“As such, this partnership is monumental for us and I want to thank Bank Alfalah for aligning with us in the much needed initiative. Our aim is not only to revive school cricket but also to develop and sustain it for a long period.

“So many of our superstars of the 70s, and 80s were products of school cricket. This partnership will develop and groom the superstars of tomorrow. In the last one year, we have made unprecedented investment in pathway and grassroots cricket and this investment will surely benefit Pakistan cricket for the next decade or two.”

Department of Management Sciences, University of Chitral organized a Five-Day Training Session 

Chitral, October 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Management Sciences, University of Chitral organized a Five-Day Training Session on “Converging Pedagogy, Sustainability and Digital Technology to Foster Academic Leadership” at the University of Chitral Campus in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology, Bannu. The project is funded by the United States Education Foundation, Pakistan under US-Pakistan University Partnerships Grants Program 2022-2023 and the Lead Institute was the University of Science and Technology Bannu (USTB).

The Project Lead (PI) of the program was Dr. Muhammad Zubair from USTB and Dr. Mansoor Ullah Baig was the Focal Person for the project at the University of Chitral. Under this project, initially, three faculty members namely Dr. Yasir Arafat, Dr. Syed Fahad Ali Shah, and Mr. Hafeez Ullah were provided Training of Trainers (ToT), and later the said faculty with the Master Trainers from USTB provided a Five-Day training to faculty members of various departments at University of Chitral.

The primary areas of the training were curricula, pedagogy, and research while considering sustainable development goals and digitization. Some of the main goals of the training were:

To highlight modern approaches to teaching and learning.

To demonstrate how can we make our courses student-cantered and market-oriented?

To ensure whether our degree programs are aligned with modern challenges or not.

To discuss whether we exploit the latest technology for physical as well as for online classes.

To highlight the challenges of online classes and how to convert those challenges into opportunities.

To focus on research as a tool to enhance the depth of teaching

To develop linkages among the universities through people-to-people interactions.

The closing ceremony was attended by Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, University of Chitral, and Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khair uz Zaman and Pro. Vice Chancellor Pro. Dr. Sultan Mehmood from the University of Science and Technology Bannu. The participant faculty were awarded certificates of participation by both the Vice Chancellors. At the occasion, both the Vice Chancellors addressed the participants, appreciated their efforts in professional development, and stressed university partnership in research and exchange of knowledge.
