Army won “DHA” 29th National Men and “DHA” 15th National Women Karate Championships 2022 

Lahore, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):“DHA”29th National Men Karate Championship 2022 and “DHA” 15th National Women Karate Championship 2022 ended at Capt. Fasih Babar Shaheed Sports Complex block-A, DHA phase 6, Lahore. Teams from all the affiliated units of Pakistan Karate Federation WAPDA, Army, Railways, Police, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP, HEC and Islamabad participated in the championships, and more than 350 players participated in these championships.

Army Won 6 Gold 2 Silver 2 Bronze Medals secured first position in “DHA”29th National Men Karate Championship 2022, WAPDA won 3 Gold, 4 Silver, 1 Bronze Medals and got second position. Sindh won 1 Gold and 1 Bronze and got third position.

Army Won 7 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Medals secured first position in “DHA” 15th National Women Karate Championship 2022, WAPDA won 2 Gold, 4 Silver, 2 Bronze Medals and got second position. Balochistan won 2 Silver and 4 Bronze and got third position.

The Finals / Prize Distribution Ceremony of the championships were held at Capt. Fasih Babar Shaheed Sports Complex block-A, DHA phase 6, Lahore. Brig Waheed Gul Sati Administrator DHA Lahore was chief guest at closing Ceremony of the championships.

Attack on transgender persons in Peshawar was result of personal dispute 

Lahore, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Fact-finding mission led by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to investigate an attack on four transgender persons in Peshawar on 11 September 2022 has concluded that the attack was a result of a personal dispute – one of the victims had refused to allow the accused to conduct a physical relationship with a junior member of her team.

On 11 September 2022, four transgender persons and a man were seriously injured when the accused opened fire on their vehicle. They were returning from a wedding, at which they had been slated to perform. HRCP felt it was necessary to investigate the incident, given the context of violence against transgender persons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

It is the responsibility of the police to arrest the accused as soon as possible and take action according to the law. However, noting the prejudiced attitude of the Peshawar police to the Trans community in general, HRCP recommends immediate and effective gender sensitivity training for the police. In addition, any police officers guilty of extorting money from transgender persons should be penalised for doing so.

HRCP also recommends that the KP provincial cabinet pass legislation to address transgender persons’ welfare as soon as possible, especially given the malicious disinformation campaign being led by religious political parties against the federal Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018. Additionally, the KP Child Protection and Welfare Commission should start registering transgender persons below 18 years of age.

Punjab Governor and Chancellor discuss importance of economic stability and higher education at 18th Convocation of IUB 

Bahawalpur, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Directorate of Public Relations, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Punjab Governor and Chancellor Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rahman has said that economic stability is necessary to give the country a dignified place in the ranks of nations. In this era of globalization, the role of higher education institutions is of utmost importance for the development of knowledge-based economy.

The Governor Punjab expressed these views while addressing the 18th convocation of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur today. In the convocation, 1857 students of 2016-20 will be awarded degrees and medals, including 8 PhD, 71 MPhil, 67 gold and 54 silver medallists. They were awarded the degrees of BS, BSc and MS, MSc. Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rahman has said that our educational institutions should produce graduates who have full access to their studies and who have high moral values. The region of Bahawalpur is full of universal message of peace and love to humanity of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is a great asset of the region which was established by Nawabin of Bahawalpur to continue the knowledge legacy of the region. On this occasion, at the chancellor’s request, all the students stood up and paid tribute to their parents and teachers. The role of Nawab of Bahawalpur in the establishment of Pakistan and its contribution to stability will always be remembered. He asked the students to devote their energies and skills to the country and the nation. High character is important for success. Consortium for the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has done significant work in climate change.

In the recently held Vice Chancellor’s Conference in Murree, it was decided that this consortium will be headed by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. It is a matter of satisfaction that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is making significant progress in all fields under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and has been included in the 801st to 1000th universities in the world in the Times Higher Education 2023 ranking. High quality of research and teaching in the university, extraordinary increase in the number of male and female students, initiatives for self-sufficiency, establishment of new departments and faculties, promotions and appointments of teachers are commendable initiatives. Initiatives to activate Seerat Chair and Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Chair in the University are very welcome.

The provision of bus service of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur within a radius of 100 kilometers is a commendable initiative for the welfare of students. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become the first hepatitis free university in the country. The flood relief campaign and donation provided by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in recent floods is a very commendable initiative. Addressing the convocation, Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob welcomed Chancellor Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rahman, senior officials, members of parliament, dignitaries from the city and civil society representatives, media, students and their parents in the 18th convocation.

He said that the recent achievements of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur have been clearly revealed by international ranking institutions and Jamia Islamia has emerged as a global university. All these achievements are due to the efforts of teachers, employees and students. It is the result of collective hard work and dedication. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become the first university of South Punjab, the second university of Punjab and the 7th university of Pakistan. The number of teachers is about 1400 and part-time is 1000. In three years, he initiated large-scale reforms in teaching and research, administrative and financial affairs and development projects. So far 27 selection boards and 63 selection committees have been organized through which 3396 teaching and non-teaching staff have been appointed.

Similarly, the number of faculty has been increased from 550 to about 1400 to provide separate manpower for teaching and research and also to increase the quality. Around 808 teachers were appointed including Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers and Associate Lecturers. After 10 years, regular Registrar and Controller Examination appointments have been implemented in the university. Similarly, new appointments of Additional Controller of Examinations, Additional Registrar, Assistant Controller of Examinations and Assistant Registrar were also made. Today the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is able to bear 90% of its own expenses.

At present, 20 thousand male and female students are taking scholarships worth one billion ten cores and flood affected students are also benefiting. After Ahmedpur and Liaquatpur campuses, steps are underway to establish Hasilpur campus. Governor Punjab and Chancellor visited the National Institute of Cotton Centre and observed the new types of cotton where Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Brandish gave a detailed briefing. The Governor of Punjab also appreciated the beauty and freshness of Baghdad ul Jaded Campus. On this occasion, a briefing was given on development activities, federal development package, public-private partnership and construction of buildings through university sources.

Air University concludes Career Counselling Week 2022

Islamabad, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Vice Chancellor Air University Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd) has stressed the need of promoting career-focused education, stating that: “Air University focuses on enhancing the employability skills in order to facilitate students for choosing a perfect career path.” He was addressing the concluding session in connection with the first-ever Career Counselling Week (AUCCW 2022) organized by the AU Career Support Office. On the occasion, Director Student Affairs Fazaila Ali, Assistant Director Sabahuddin Qazi, Placement Officials Gulnaz Batool, Misbah Shahid, Mobeen Jamshed and other distinguished guests were also present.

The Vice Chancellor, in his address, emphasized that a career-oriented education is the need of time that empowers students, through academic programs and co-curricular activities, to identify their professional goals and let them move forward in the right direction to achieve successes. “Air University is taking various initiatives facilitating students to earn their valuable degree, develop bright destiny, and ensure a solid foundation for their future achievements,” he further said.

Answering a question about the importance of CGPA in job hirings, the VC acknowledged that the CGPA is usually considered the most important factor when being shortlisted for a job position. “You might get a job offer based on your academic performance, but in order to secure the seat and compete in the job market, you need to demonstrate extraordinary competencies related to creative thinking, interpersonal skills, team spirit, decision-making, and a strong grip on technology,” he stated.

“It is a universal fact that students who are more self-aware and clear on their career strengths feel more confident to explore professional opportunities,” DSA Fazaila Ali expressed while expressing her views with students. “The key objectives for organizing the Career Counselling Week include to brief newly-enrolled students of 1st semester about the significance of choosing the right career path, to test and evaluate job readiness skills, and to devise a concrete plan of action in support of career planning and development,” she emphasized.

“The data obtained could also be beneficial for research purpose and decision making process to find out more about students’ career readiness, their strengths and needs for grooming,” Sabahuddin Qazi, who heads Career Support Office, stated, informing that “it will also provide a comprehensive framework for addressing career-related goals and outcomes of curricular and co-curricular activities in terms of student’s field of study and interest areas.”

According to him, a total nine sessions were held throughout the week starting from October 10, during which the AU Career Counselling core team, composed of Gulnaz Batool, Misbah Shahid and Mobeen Jamshed, evaluated the employability skills and career readiness competencies that employers value most in the recruitment process. “The participating students were thoroughly tested on the basis of job readiness competencies, as per international best practices,” he stated.

Broadcast details of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 announced 

Dubai, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council announced the details of its broadcast arrangements for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, including a star-studded commentary panel that will provide expert opinion during the event in Australia from 16 October to 13 November.

ICC TV will produce live coverage of all the matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, and a full world feed service for licensees. This will include a pre-match show, an innings interval fill and a post-match wrap-up. A star-studded commentary panel will bring the game closer to the fans than ever before.

Eoin Morgan, the last captain to lift the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, will be making his ICC TV commentary debut and will be working alongside other stellar names including former Cricket World Cup winners from Australia, Adam Gilchrist, Mel Jones, Shane Watson and Michael Clarke.

They are joined by former England captains, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, as well as former India Coach and Men’s Cricket World Cup winner Ravi Shastri and Women’s Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup winner Isa Guha. Other names include Men’s T20 World Cup winners Carlos Brathwaite and Samuel Badree, ICC Hall of Famers Shaun Pollock and Sunil Gavaskar, and former South Africa Paceman Dale Steyn.

In addition, seasoned broadcasters Harsha Bhogle, Ian Smith, Bazid Khan, Natalie Germanos, Mark Howard, Ian Bishop, Athar Ali Khan, Simon Doull, Russel Arnold, Danny Morrison and Mpumelelo Mbangwa will also form a part of the panel. The First Round of the tournament will also feature Brian Murgatroyd, Dirk Nannes, Niall O’Brien and Preston Mommsen.

Eoin Morgan said: “This is one of cricket’s most exciting tournaments and the players will be raring to go out there and show what they are capable of. It’s going to be a very competitive event with teams adding new skills in a format evolving at a rapid pace. I’m looking forward to being a part of the action in my new role as a broadcaster.”

Adam Gilchrist said: “We’re really excited to have one of cricket’s marquee events come to our shores in Australia. The spotlight will be on some wonderful venues, and it’s a great opportunity for fans to come out and support their favourite teams. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the commentary team.”

Mel Jones said: “It’s time for another Men’s T20 World Cup and it’s one that Australian fans are keenly awaiting. The conditions on offer here will make for some entertaining cricket and I’m expecting to see a lot of closely fought contests. Memories of the women’s team famously winning at the MCG in 2020 are still fresh in my mind. The chance of the men’s team replicating that, and going back-to-back themselves, has the whole country buzzing.”

Nasser Hussain said: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a great tournament with the world’s best talent on view. Not much separates the teams, and the tournament promises some hard-fought battles and top-drawer performances. I am sure I will enjoy commentating in Australia, which has some iconic venues and spectators who really love the game.”

Harsha Bhogle said: “The Men’s T20 World Cup has come a long way since the first edition in 2007. The format itself has developed so much and the players have added so many different skills to their repertoire. It will be a pleasure to commentate on this edition in Australia, a great sporting nation. With the crowds back, it will be great to see T20 cricket being played on large grounds. This event should hold everyone’s attention.”

ICC TV is supported by production services partner Sunset+Vine and equipment services partner NEP Broadcast Solutions. AE Live will deliver the on-air graphics for the coverage.

Viewers will be treated to state-of-the-art coverage which will include a minimum of 35 cameras at every game. The coverage will also be complemented with a variety of analytical and visual enhancements.

The broadcast will feature for the first time, Field 360° – a virtual field model, powered by an AI enabled live player tracking engine which provides viewers with an immersive experience. This technology, used to shine a light on fielding positions and strategies, has been developed by Quidich Innovation Labs with creative direction from ICC TV.

DRS services including ball tracking and edge detection will be provided by Hawk-Eye, and the graphics system will be supplemented by in-depth cricket data analytics provided by Cricviz. The drone camera provided by Level Horizons will provide stunning views of all venues and surrounding geography. There will be a roving buggy cam as well for a ground level view, while Spidercam will provide an aerial view of proceedings.

ICC TV will also produce a host of additional content off the field of play, to be distributed to its media rights partners via the ICC TV Content Delivery Service. This content will include daily player profiles, team features, match previews, venue features and other behind the scenes content, getting fans up close and personal with all the action around the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The ICC’s Global broadcast partner Disney Star and its licensees will broadcast each match live on a global basis. In India, the Star Sports network will distribute the English world feed across all matches. In addition to the world feed, Star Sports will broadcast the tournament in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada and digital platform Disney+ Hotstar will host each match live.

In host nation Australia, all matches will be live on Fox Sports and Kayo with Australia matches and selected other fixtures available via nine, 9GEM and 9Now. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Sky Sport will be providing live coverage via their linear channels and the Sky Go platform. Cricket fans from the USA can enjoy the action via the ESPN+ app and on Willow TV, which will also be broadcasting in Canada. In the UK, Sky Sports will be providing live coverage via their Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Main Event channels, which are also available via subscription on the Sky Go app and NOW.

Non-live digital coverage will again be made available via the ICC Facebook and Instragram channels, with in-play clips and highlights clips in the Indian subcontinent and five-minute highlights, which will be available globally. In addition, BBC Sport (UK) and Spark Sport (NZ) will also provide coverage via short-form in-play and highlights clips.

Sports Entertainment Network Radio (Australia and New Zealand), ABC (Australia) and BBC (UK) will broadcast commentaries live from match’s venues across their FM channels. In India, Prasar Bharati will be broadcasting in Hindi across FM/AM and Digital 2 Sports will showcase audio-only coverage on their digital platform. Shamal Radio (Pakistan), Radio 4 (UAE) and Asiatec (Bangladesh) will also be carrying live commentary in core cricket markets.

AH Kardar and Younis Khan inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame 

Lahore, October 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan’s first Test captain Abdul Hafeez Kardar and country’s most successful Test batter and 2009 T20 World Cup winning captain Younis Khan have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame. The two iconic figures of Pakistan cricket have joined Abdul Qadir, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Zaheer Abbas in the illustrious group.

Kardar (posthumously) and Younis were inducted following a transparent voting process, which was participated by Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis (all former Pakistan men’s captains and PCB Hall of Famers), Sana Mir, Urooj Mumtaz (both former Pakistan women’s captains), Aaliya Rasheed, Dr Nauman Niaz, Rasheed Shakoor, Qamar Ahmed and Waheed Khan (all respected print and broadcast journalists).

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “The PCB Hall of Fame is designed to acknowledge, recognise and cherish the sacrifices, contributions and achievements of the role models in our sport and it is befitting that in our diamond jubilee celebrations, we induct two stalwarts from two completely different generations and eras of our proud cricket history.

“AH Kardar gave us a cricket dream, vision and mission in our formation years, and Younis Khan was one of the players who gave his absolute best in fulfilling those expectations through exemplary hard work, deep commitment and untiring performances against all opposition and across all formats. “The two gentlemen will always remain shining stars of Pakistan cricket and idols for the future generations.”

Reacting to the news, Shahid Kardar, AH Kardar’s son, said: “This is a richly deserved tribute to a natural Skipper whose inspirational leadership, imprint of character, tactical brilliance and sheer grit put Pakistan on the world cricket map by evolving a bunch of club level cricketers into a team that achieved laurels beyond its perceived potential. He lit the flame that set the country ablaze, converting just another pastime sport into a rage.

“The Kardar family is profoundly touched and gratified at the recognition of the contributions of their patriarch with his inclusion in the Hall of Fame by the Pakistan Cricket Board.” Younis Khan was inducted immediately after becoming eligible as the PCB Hall of Fame regulations require a player should have played his last international match, at least, five years before. Younis’ last international match was in Dominica in May 2017 – the Test which Pakistan won with six balls remaining to clinch their maiden series win in the Caribbean.

Younis Khan: “I feel honoured and humbled to have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame by the Pakistan Cricket Board. There are many notable names amongst the list inducted prior to me, whos performances have been outstanding. I, thus, feel it a matter of immense pride and honour for my name to be amongst those legends, having given my all to make my country proud.

“Success is something that should not be attributed to just an individual, for there are many stakeholders who have helped me in my journey, and to whom I am indebted: my family, team-mates, captains and support staff, and all those who provided me with the opportunity to serve my country and team with respect and dignity. Collectively, everybody along my journey shaped me and instilled within me the tenacity and drive.

“Highs and lows are all part and parcel of a typical career, whether in cricket or otherwise. I feel blessed to have played for my country, Pakistan. With God’s will, I achieved what most can only dream across the span of my professional playing career.

“My only regret remains being unable to play the second half of my international cricket in front of home fans, though despite this my supporters continued to follow and support me whenever and wherever I represented Pakistan. My fans have remained a huge source of motivation and inspiration throughout my career, and for this I will always be grateful.”

ABDUL HAFEEZ KARDAR, born in Lahore on 17 January 1925, played three Tests for India on the 1946 tour of England. Prior to making debut for India, Kardar had represented India’s domestic teams Northern India (1943 and 1945) and Muslims (1944).

After partition, Kardar preferred Oxford University (1947-49) and Warwickshire (1948-50) over India. However, when Pakistan became the seventh Test playing nation on 28 July 1952, Kardar was appointed the first captain and led the side in all the 23 Tests he played from 1952 to 1958.

Under Kardar’s captaincy, Pakistan achieved an unparalleled distinction of winning a Test in maiden series against all the Test playing nations of the day – India (Lucknow, 1952), England (The Oval, 1954), New Zealand (Karachi, 1955), Australia (Karachi, 1956) and West Indies (Trinidad, 1958).

Kardar, an Oxford University graduate who scored 927 runs and took 21 wickets in 26 Tests, also headed the then Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan from 1972-1977. In 1958, he was awarded Pride of Performance, the highest national literary award of Pakistan, while he was posthumously awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz, the second highest civilian award, in 2013. Kardar passed peacefully in Lahore on 21 April 1996, aged 71.

YOUNIS KHAN, who turns 45 next month, featured in third most Tests for Pakistan (118) in which he accumulated most runs for Pakistan (10,099) and 14th most overall in the 145-year history of Test cricket. He averaged 52.05 (18th highest amongst those who have played 50 or more Tests), scored 34 Test centuries (most for Pakistan and sixth most in the world), including six double-centuries (seventh most in the world along with Javed Miandad and five others) and a career-best 313 in February 2009, which subsequently took him to No.1 position in the ICC rankings.

Younis also had safe pair of hands, when he held 139 catches (15th most in the world). He also captained Pakistan in 38 international matches, winning 14. In an illustrious career from 2000 to 2017, Younis Khan produced a number of high quality and memorable Test innings. Apart from his 313 versus Sri Lanka, the opposition against whom he had scored a century on debut in Rawalpindi, some of other exceptional Test innings included 91 and 149 not out v New Zealand (Auckland, 2001), 153 and 71 v West Indies (Sharjah, 2002), 267 and 84 not out v India (Bengaluru , 2005), 199 v India (Lahore, 2006), 83 and 194 v India (Faisalabad, 2006), 173 and 41 v England (Headingley, 2006), 35 and 131 not out v South Africa (Dubai, 2010), 200 not out v Bangladesh (Chattogram , 2011), 200 not out v Zimbabwe (Harare 2013), 106 and 103 not out v Australia (Dubai, 2014), 171 not out v Sri Lanka (Pallekele, 2015), 56 and 118 v England (Dubai, 2015), 218 v England (The Oval, 2016) and 175 not out v Australia (Sydney, 2017).

Younis played in four ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups from 2003-2015 and finished his 265-match ODI career with 7,249 runs with seven centuries. In 25 T20Is, Younis scored 442 runs at a strike-rate of 121.42, but he is remembered for inspiring Pakistan to their first world title in 17 years when he lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2009 trophy at Lord’s.

Younis won 15 player of the match awards in ODIs against Australia, England, Kenya, Sri Lanka, West Indies (one each), India, Zimbabwe (four each) and South Africa (two). He picked up two player of the match awards in T20Is – against Kenya for his bowling figures of 3-18 and Sri Lanka for his 35-ball 51 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007.

In 2010, Younis was bestowed with the prestigious Pride of Performance award, while he received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award in 2018. In 2020-21, Younis served the national side as their batting consultant. The formal inductions of the two newest PCB Hall of Famers will take place during the ongoing season.
