UOL, Servaid Pharmacy, Citi Pharma Private Limited sign a student employment agreement 

Lahore, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Lahore (UOL) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Servaid Pharmacy and Citi Pharma Pvt. Ltd. on June 30, 2022. As per the MoUs, both companies will accommodate a large number of UOL students as interns or employees.

The agreements were signed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Syed Nisar Hussain Shah (Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy) and Dr. Kishwar Sultana (Head Faculty of Pharmacy), while the ceremony was organized by Mr. Zeeshan Akbar (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy). On these collaborations, Mr. Awais Raoof (Chairman, BoG, UOL) lauded the efforts of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences raises awareness against drug abuse 

Lahore, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences arranged a seminar on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. During the event, different speakers including Dr. Shafqat Huma (HoD Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences), Dr. Sheikh Naveed (Consultant Psychiatrist, Australia), and Dr. Sumira Qambar Bukahri ((HoD Psychiatry, SIMS) presented their talks and put forth their perspectives regarding the increased drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The event was graced by Dr. Naeem Baig Mirza (M.S. PESSI).

Devsinc visit by FOIT students

Lahore, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):“Devsinc” is a fast-growing software industry visited by FoIT instructors and students on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. A primary goal of the trip was to introduce the students to the industry’s working environment and some of the most cutting-edge technologies in use worldwide. Students in their last year could deduce the problem statements from the requirements of international projects. Master Trainer “Zia ur Rehman” and Human Resources Director “Sidra Anwer” answered many of the students’ queries in a comprehensive session. Students have received interviews and job opportunities from the Devsinc programme. Devsinc and UCP (FoIT) have also agreed to sign an MOU for future collaborations.

Evolution of ASEAN 

Lahore, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):An invited lecture titled: “Evolution of ASEAN: Lessons from SAARC and the Potential Role of Pakistan” was held at the University of Central Punjab on 28th June 2022 in the Webinar Hall of the university. The event was organized by the Department of Political Science and International Relations under the auspices of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This event’s chief objective was to acquaint students with the importance and role of ASEAN in ongoing global politics and to make students aware of Pakistan’s potential role and contribution to ‘Connectivity Politics’.

The guest speaker for this event was Professor Bilveer Singh, the Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore. The distinguished speaker first provided background information on ASEAN, the most successful regional organization in the developing world. Then he shed light on the strategic objectives and aims of this successful alliance of regional states under ASEAN, including economic growth, social progress, cultural development and promotion of regional peace and stability. After that, he compared ASEAN and SAARC, i.e., unlike SAARC, ASEAN promotes mutual assistance and active collaboration of member states.

Moreover, he discussed the limitations of SAARC and the key reasons behind the success of ASEAN in today’s world. Lastly, he focused on South Asian states such as Pakistan and India that can play a role as a Peacemaker and Engines of Growth in South Asia by following the ASEAN model as it is a role of connector between states and non-state actors. The discussion was followed by a Q and session. Mr Bilveer Singh answered the questions from students very well. In the end, the guest speaker was presented with a souvenir by the Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Faculty Advising Office Acknowledges Services of Faculty Advisors 

Lahore, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Faculty Advising Office organized a lunch on June 29, 2022, at E-21 to acknowledge the services of Faculty Advisors and endorse chairpersons’ role in the advising system and their active participation in different events and training sessions. Deans graced the occasion with their presence. Group photos were also taken in front of the Distinguished Formanites Wall of the E-21.

This tradition has been continued since 2012. Dr. Atiq ur Rehman, Head of Faculty Advising, presented a brief progress report on training sessions, events organized and material developed to facilitate Advisor/Advisees. Moreover, on one hand, he highlighted the importance and need for constant communication, advising sessions, and training as it is also suggested by NACADA to resolve the informational, conceptual, relational as well as technological challenges. The importance of collaboration with other Departments and the Advising Center was also highlighted.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Jonathan S. Addelton the Rector FCCU, expressed his views on the report and admired this tradition. He emphasized the importance of Faculty Advising by saying that the Advisory dimension is greatly important along with teaching and research for the betterment of the students and guiding them for their bright future. He appreciated the entire Faculty Advisors and their role in making FCCU’S mission true. The participants also enjoined the event and showed interest in Faculty Advising. They reiterated their commitment to continue playing their role effectively.
