SISS raises awareness about women empowerment

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The faculty and students of the School of Integrated Social Sciences (SISS) organized a university-wide walk themed on “Emancipation” to raise awareness about women empowerment on March 8, 2022. During the walk, they paid homage to the services of women, and created awareness about the women’s rights. The event also symbolised how the University of Lahore (UOL) remains committed to enabling women to break stereotypes and advance ahead.

Electrical Engineering offers training on Zotero Software 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Electrical Engineering in collaboration with IEEE UOL Student Branch, organized a 0.5 CPD Credit Point based seminar on “Managing references using Zotero Software” on March 4, 2022 at UOL Main Campus, Lahore. The event focused on training the faculty on employing Zotero Software (a free open-source tool) for collecting, organizing, citing, and sharing of research studies. Engr. Dr. Ghulam Abbas (Head and Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering) was the key speaker of the event.

Training conducted for engineers to familiarise with solar, wind generation 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):A 0.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit point training workshop on “Integration and Exploitation of Renewable and Wind Energy Sources in Smart Power System” for Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) registered students was held on March 7, 2022 at the University of Lahore (UOL), Defence Road Campus.

The training was conducted by the Department of Computer Engineering under the facilitation of Engr. Ihsan Ullah (Assistant Professor, UOL) to familiarise engineers with solar, wind energy generation and integration. This session informed the participants regarding mechanisms in which the existing power grid can be increased in order to meet the demands of the rapid population growth. It also briefed them about the current status of large, grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy, its benefits, constraints to development, as well as strategies for mitigating negative impacts and overcoming barriers to investment.

During the training session, Engr. Ihsan Ullah enhanced engineers’ knowledge and skills. The trainer further addressed the key challenges confronting PV and wind power developers, including resource variability, grid integration and transmission costs, with providing best practices for enabling the development of PV and wind power.

UOL celebrates Baloch culture with zeal and zest 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):An event dubbed as “Baloch Culture Day” was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour to mark this special day at the University of Lahore (UOL) on March 2, 2022. This colourful event – that attracted a large audience – was organised by the Balochistan Initiative Society with the aim to demonstrate love and solidarity with the Baloch Culture.

During the event, the students clad in Balochi traditional clothes participated in this event which was decorated with performances such as ‘Balochi Nur Sur’, ‘Balochi Zaam Dhress’, and ‘Balochi Chhaap’. The Baloch students also performed on ‘Koh-e-Suleman’ and other Balochi songs that thrilled the attendees.

Lahore Qalandars’ CEO Atif Rana Brings PSL Trophy to UOL 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mr. Atif Rana (CEO, Lahore Qalandars) and Aqib Javed (Head Coach) visited the University of Lahore (UOL) on March 8, 2022 as part of their campaign for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 trophy celebrations. The Executive Development Centre (EDC) under the supervision of Dr. Maryam Iqbal Kiyani (Director, EDC) with the guidance of Mr. Awais Raoof (Chairman, BoG) organized this mega event to congratulate and celebrate the victory of Qalandars.

The guests and champion trophy were warmly welcomed and showered with petals by the students and management of the varsity at various entry points. Mr. Raoof along with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Rector), Mr. Nasir Mehmood (Pro-Rector, Academics) were present at the occasion.

Mr. Raoof appreciated Lahore Qalandars for winning the PSL season 7 and congratulated the visiting officials especially Mr. Rana and head coach. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Mehmood highly appreciated the team for putting its match winning efforts. He praised the player development program (PDP) of Qalandars for producing world class talent like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman.

The Rector admired the stunning performance of Qalandars’ team on their excellent win. He also wished them success for the upcoming tournaments. Meanwhile, Mr. Rana expressed his satisfaction upon bringing the PSL trophy to UOL adding, “two years ago, Mr. Raoof asked me to bring the trophy here and I have fulfilled his request”.

During the event, the PSL 7th Edition Trophy was displayed followed by Turban wearing tradition and a cake-cutting ceremony. A music concert along with the dinner was also hosted for the guests. Lahore Qalandars’ staff also distributed their fan t-shirts among the students. The excited UOL community also got a chance to get their photographs taken with Mr. Rana and Aqib Javed.

UOL and Lahore Qalandars pledged to make this visit a foundation for a long-term partnership between the two institutes, promising a commitment to bring about professionalism to the Pakistani sports structure and creating greater opportunities for students to take part in higher level sports.

10th Annual International Conference on Education Kicked Off at UE 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 10th International Conference on “Education and Teaching in Times of Uncertainty: Preparing for the Future” kicked off at University of Education, Lahore Main Campus here on April 01, 2022. The Conference, which runs from April 1, 2022 to April 8, 2022, is being attended by eminent academics, scholars and teachers from across Pakistan, along with the United Kingdom and Australia. During the 8-day international conference, 75 research papers will be presented by researchers. The Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony was Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen, the Vice Chancellor, University of Home Economics while Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.), Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Lahore presided over the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen, the Vice Chancellor, University of Home Economics said that the University of Education, Lahore has once again proved its uniqueness by holding this international Conference on Education. She said that of course no nation or country can develop without education and an excellent system is required for the promotion and development of education, for which higher education institutions have to come forward to meet the objective.

The responsibility of higher education institutions is not only to provide education but also to play their active role in promoting education and improving the education system through modern research. Welcoming the participants of the conference, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that the theme of this year’s conference is very important because of the challenges that the world may face in future. The solution lies in the development of education and research.

Undoubtedly, the better future of the world depends on continuous research and development on the basis of research and development in education. The Vice Chancellor said that through the said international conference, an attempt has been made to provide a platform to educationists from all over the world, including Pakistan, through which the problems facing the education sector could be solved in future. Chief organizer of the Conference Director, Division of Education, Dr. Ayaz Khan and others also addressed the ceremony. A large number of personalities from different walks of life including students were also present on the occasion.
