Seminar on “Recent Trends in Textiles” at National Textile University, Faisalabad 

Faisalabad, January 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Textile Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology, National Textile University, Faisalabad, arranged a seminar on “Recent Trends in Textiles” on 12th Jan 2022. One of the event’s key highlights includes the excellent innovations performed at NTU by Dr. Munir Ashraf (Principal Investigator of the HEC’s funded Rapid Research Grant Project titled “Development of bioactive hospital and protective suits against viruses and bacteria by immobilization of nanomaterials.”

More than 300 individuals from Industrial sector, students, and other stakeholders attended the seminar following proper COVID-19 SOPs. Dr. Yasir Nawab (Dean SET) and Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain (Rector) praised the efforts of Dr. Munir Ashraf and his contributions during the pandemic.

DDL holds Training Session for Course Instructors 

Islamabad, January 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):A training session for Course Instructors of the certificate courses offered for admission was held through blended mode. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Assistant Professor DoE welcomed the participants and briefed about the training. Dr. Mehrosh Khalid demonstrated the usage of ODL portal and guided about various features and live class/interaction time which instructors would be using during the course.

The session remained interactive and queries of the course instructors were addressed. In the end Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani Vice President (A and F)/Director DDL appreciated the team and the participants and hoped that the training takeaways will be helpful for the instructors.

Department of Urdu holds workshop on Personality Building and Career Counselling 

Islamabad, January 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Urdu (female campus) of International Islamic University (IIU) organized a workshop for more than 50 female Alumni of BS and MA Urdu on the topic of personality building and career counselling. This workshop was attended by Dean Faculty of Language and Literature Prof. Dr. Najeeb Arif and Chairperson Urdu Department Dr. Humaira Ashfaq.

The resource persons of the various sessions included Prof. Muhammad Akram Chaudhary Director Punjab Group of Colleges who gave lecture on impressive CV making and job interview. Dr. Naseem Razi an Associate Professor of Law shared thoughts on self-protection at workplace and Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Dean Faculty of Social Sciences guided on opportunities in journalism. In the end, Dr. Humaira Ashfaq thanked the trainers and vowed that such activities shall continue in future as well. On the occasion, Dr. Zafar Iqbal distributed certificates among the students.

Senate passes SBP (Amendment) Bill amid opposition’s protest

Islamabad, January 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Senate passed the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Amendment Bill, 2022 by a margin of one vote and rejected opposition’s amendments on it, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its daily factsheet on Friday.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during the eleventh sitting of 317th session:

Members’ Participation

The Senate met for an hour and 44 minutes.

The sitting started at the scheduled time of 10:30 am.

The chairman presided over the entire proceedings.

The deputy chairman was also present.

The leader of the house attended the entire sitting.

The leader of the opposition was not present.

The Prime Minister was not present.

As many as 33 lawmakers (33%) were present at the outset and 85 (85%) at the adjournment of sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PML-N, JI, BAP, PTI, ANP, PML-F, JUI-F, NP and PML attended the sitting.

All four minority lawmakers were present.

Output

The House passed the National Metrology Institute of Pakistan Bill, 2022 after presentation of standing committee’s report on it.

Moved by Minister for finance, the House passed a motion to present the SBP (Amendment) Bill, 2022. As many as 43 votes were polled in motion’s favour while the same number opposed it. After tie, the Senate Chairman voted in favour of the motion and the bill was moved for consideration in the House.

The House passed the SBP (Amendment) Bill as 43 votes were cast in favour of the bill and 42 against it. Earlier, all amendments of the opposition on this legislative proposal were rejected through voice voting.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up all five starred questions while lawmakers asked 13 supplementary questions.

The House did not take up motion of thanks to the President for his address to both Houses of Parliament assembled together on September 13, 2021.

Order and Institutionalization

Five lawmakers spoke on points of order for 17 minutes.

The opposition protested during the proceedings demanding the Chair for consideration of agenda according to sequence on `Orders of the Day’ and against delay in taking up the SBP (Amendment) Bill when the treasury’s numerical strength was less in the House. The Chair suspended the proceedings for 28 minutes amid this protest of the opposition.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 03:30 pm.
