44% Pakistanis expect the country’s economic situation to deteriorate in the next 6 months, only a quarter are hopeful that it will be better: Consumer Confidence Index Q3 2021 by Gallup Pakistan and Dun and Bradstreet 

Islamabad, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):According to a Consumer Confidence Index survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 44% Pakistanis expect the country’s economic situation to deteriorate in the next 6 months, only a quarter are hopeful that it will be better.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the four provinces was asked the following question, “In your opinion, compared to today, how is the economic situation of the country going to be in the next six months?” In response to this question, 2% said ‘much better’, 24% said ‘better’, 15% said ‘same as now’, 27% said ‘worse’ and 17% said ‘much worse’. 15% did not know or provided no response.

UVAS signs MoU with KP Livestock Department to establish Veterinary University at Swat

Lahore, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Livestock and Dairy Development Department (Extension) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) signed a memorandum of understanding to establish University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Swat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (S.I) and Director Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Dr Farhan Jamil from UVAS while Project Director/Director General Livestock Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Alamzeb and Livestock Economist L and DD (Extension) KP Dr Mir Ahmad Khan from the Livestock Department, KP, signed the MoU in a ceremony held at UVAS City Campus on Monday.

UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, faculty members and delegations from Livestock and Dairy Development (Extension) and Department of Agriculture Livestock and Cooperative Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were present. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad expressed willingness to collaborate with KP Livestock Department for the establishment of Veterinary University at Swat. He said this university played a pivotal role in the development of livestock sector. Earlier he briefed the delegation on various undergraduate degree programmes of the university.

Dr Alamzeb acknowledged the role of UVAS and said that this cooperation will be very beneficial especially for the establishment of new veterinary university at Swat which will be key to strengthen the national economy and boost milk and meat production in KP. Prof Dr Masood Rabbani briefed the delegation on the necessary requirements for the promotion of veterinary education, rules and regulations, updated curriculum for doctor of veterinary medicine students and for para-veterinary field staff.

He said Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) updated DVM curriculum according to modern day needs by adding latest veterinary practices and updated knowledge to produce a trained human resource. According to the MOU, UVAS will provide technical guidelines and assistance of faculties, laboratories, clinics, experimental animal unit, IT centre, dairy and poultry farms, specification of equipment and books/journals for the establishment of Swat veterinary university.

ILSA Interactive conduct recruitment drive at LUMS

Lahore, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): The recruitment drive was held on December 9, 2021 at the LUMS campus. Ms. Samra Khawar, Head of Human Resources started the session with a company introduction. She shared that ILSA Interactive is a software development company that builds customised digital solutions for businesses and clients across multiple industries.

Founded in 2008 by CEO Salman Nasir, the company has been built with the values of commitment and customer satisfaction in mind. It is a customer-centric company that aims to provide a safe environment and equal career progression opportunities to its employees. Furthermore, she gave an overview of the operations managed under the umbrella of different departments.

Ms. Khawar then invited Mr. Adeel Ahmad, Project Manager who shared his 10 years of experience with the company and highlighted the recent projects initiated by ILSA. Ms. Khawar also shared the testimonials of LUMS alumni Ms. Arzoo Khizar (BSc 2021) who works as Business Analyst at the company and Mr. Abu Hurairah (BS 2021) who is an Associate Software Engineer.

She also explained the four steps of the recruitment process and the details of available positions. The company’s target audience are undergraduates from the Computer Science, Business Management and Science and BA English Literature programmes. The session ended with an interactive question and answer session followed by the written test for technical students only.

Department of Physics, FBAS holds workshop on “Optical Physics”

Islamabad, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): In connection with the 42nd Anniversary Celebrations of Foundation Day of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), the Department of Physics, Female Campus of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, FBAS, organized a workshop on “Optical Physics” in collaboration with Optica (OSA), Department of Physics from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), ICO and SPIE.

The workshop was based on the familiarization of experimental and theoretical aspects of optics, allowing students of BS Physics to obtain hands-on experiences with optical equipment through experiments such as Total Internal Reflection, Single and Double Slit, Scattering and Polarization.

Dr. Imrana Ashraf, Professor of Physics at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad was the keynote speaker on this occasion and shared valuable expertise with students during the workshop. Dr. Imrana is a renowned researcher and the winner of the 2004 ICO/ICTP Prize and SPIRIT OF SALAM Award in 2017. She is also a nominee for Optica for extending the concept of optics to undergrad Female students in Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (R and E), IIUI appreciated the efforts of faculty members and the organizing team for arranging this beneficial workshop. He thanked all the guests for their participation and presented a shield to the guest speaker. On this occasion participants of the workshop also visited the labs at Center for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE), IIUI along with the Vice President and faculty members. Vice President (R and E), hoped that this workshop would highly be beneficial in developing the concepts related to optics for the students attending.

Department of Islamic Art and Architecture holds Exhibition

Islamabad, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): The Department of Islamic Art and Architecture (IA and A) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, FSS of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized a three-days art exhibition at the Central Library of New Campus which was attended by a large number of students visiting Central Library, Head of Departments of the faculty and faculty members.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Masoom Yasinzai, Rector, IIUI also paid a visit during three-days art exhibition where he hailed the creative work art work of the students and also lauded the role of department for arranging such a constructive activity. He said that such events are a way to promote Islamic culture and civilization.

Dr. Masoom urged the officials of the department to work for bringing the talent of IIUI students to the national and international level. He furthered that artists are rare and to encourage the young talented students of this exhibition, they would be provided a lot of appreciation in this regard.

Earlier, the exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. N.B. Jumani, Vice President (A and F), IIUI, Dr. Jumani and Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI. Dr. Jumani vowed that the department will keep arranging such events in future and appreciated the efforts of students and teachers of the department. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean, FSS also appreciated efforts of Dr. Zeeshan Haider, Incharge Islamic Art and Architecture, Male Campus and Ms. Attia Abrar Incharge, IA and A, Female Campus for arranging art exhibition in limited recourses.

During the three-days art exhibition, students of the department, displayed their projects of different subjects including Interior designing, Ceramics, Paintings, Miniature, Product Design, drawing and Textile Design. They exhibit Calligraphy, Painting, Miniatures, Chairs, Lamps, Mirrors, Free Hand drawings Models of Interior and different projects of ceramics.

IIU President participates in IAG Meeting in Egypt

Islamabad, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): H.E. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President, International Islamic University (IIU) participated in eighth annual meeting of the Islamic Advisory Group (IAG) in Egypt. The group this year reiterated its commitment to continue supporting the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, echoing its trust in the safety and effectiveness of all routine childhood vaccinations as a lifesaving tool that aligns with Islamic shariah.

The meeting further emphasized the key role of the IAG in addressing public health priorities as part of its expanded mandate, which extends to improving the health and well-being of people guided by the teachings of Islam and supporting mother and child health initiatives.

This year’s IAG meeting was hosted by Al Azhar Al Sharif in Cairo, Egypt, under the co-chairmanship of Al Azhar and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) with the participation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the significant role of Islamic scholars and organizations in rectifying people’s understanding about public health matters, especially COVID-19.
