United States Consul General, Sindh Minister of Health and religious leaders visited Dow University of Health Sciences Ojha Campus 

Karachi, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):U.S. Consul General Mark Stroh, Sindh Minister of Health Azra Fazal Pechuho, and religious leaders representing Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and Parsis visited Karachi’s Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Ojha Campus as part of the United States and Sindh government’s ongoing immunization awareness campaign, Fizaaoon se Falaah Tak. The campaign is helping to save lives by encouraging Pakistani citizens to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. Consul General Mark Stroh, Sindh Minister of Health Azra Fazal Pechuho, and religious leaders congratulated Pakistanis receiving Pfizer vaccines and thanked healthcare workers for their vital role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Sindh Minister of Health and I are proud to be joined today by Pakistani religious leaders in our campaign to encourage vaccinations. Throughout the United States, religious leaders are also urging their followers to get vaccinated against COVID-19, dispelling myths and misinformation about the vaccines. We can only control COVID-19 by partnering together. So, join us, get yourself vaccinated, and encourage your family members, neighbours, and friends to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” said Consul General Mark Stroh, while meeting people getting Pfizer vaccines at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Ojha Campus.

“The people of the United States have provided more than 25 million live-saving doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccine to Pakistan, the largest such donation to any country worldwide,” added Consul General Stroh. Parsi community representative Tushnaanmiti Patel, Pakistan Sikh Council Chairperson Sardar Ramesh Singh, Trinity Church Pastor Ghazala Shafique, Interfaith Commission for Peace and Harmony Chief Executive Allama Ahsan Siddiqui, Daryalal Temple Priest Vijay Maharaj, and DOW University Vice Chancellor Dr. Saeed Quraishi discussed the importance of getting vaccinated during the visit.

The United States is a leader in the global fight against COVID-19 and has donated more than 270 million vaccine doses worldwide. These vaccines are being delivered to more than 110 countries, including Pakistan, to fulfill President Joseph R. Biden’s commitment to provide safe and effective vaccines around the world and supercharge the global fight against the pandemic. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States has delivered assistance worth $63 million in the form of emergency medical supplies such as personal protective equipment and ventilators, medical training, and medical infrastructure to the people of Pakistan in addition to the vaccine donations.

Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri urges Academia to play role in Dissemination of Moderation and Peaceful Co-Existence

Islamabad, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri has said that education is the foundation of progress and academia must play a role in dissemination of moderation and peaceful co-existence. He was addressing an international seminar at International Islamic University (IIU) held in connection with 42nd anniversary celebrations of the university titled “the contributions of IIUI in advancing knowledge and way forward through strategic plan 2021” organized by the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the university.

The religious minister said that Pakistan will keep progressing and we must deliver to the coming generations so that they may lead the world. He hailed IIUI President’s initiatives for university’s progress, and hoped that it would achieve its goals in the light of its newly prepared strategic plan. He said that he will be looking forward to working with the scholars of IIUI in the Rehmat ul lil Alameen (PBUH) program. He stressed that educational institutions have vital importance in promoting peace and tolerance. He emphasized on protection of rights of minorities adding that those must be given due importance in the society.

Addressing the ceremony, IIUI President felicitated the Rector, Vice Presidents, teachers, staff and students on the occasion of 42nd anniversary celebrations. He said that it is the day to reiterate the resolve that IIUI would be among the leading education institutions of the world in future. He said that in the future the university will have the addition of two new faculties.

He added that as part of transformation and advancement, the university has also launched its online portal for open and Distance learning. He said that IIUI management is focused on facilitating on campus 30 thousand male and female students in acquiring quality education. Discussing the Pak Saudi ties, he said both countries have deep and historic ties and IIUI is an omen of this exemplary friendship. “It is the time to take the lead and shine” said Dr. Hathal addressing the students. He stressed upon them to be prepared for the future and remain up to date in the light of contemporary changes.

Addressing on the occasion, Vice President, Administration and Finance, Dr. N.B. Jumani said that IIUI’s mentionable performance in the present international rankings is a reflection of its success. He said that faculties and constituent units of IIUI are playing a significant role in promotion of research and improvement of quality education.

He said that in the light of the next 5 years plan prepared by the present; leadership, the IIUI would focus on governance, campus life, economic stability and digitization to make it an ideal educational institution. He hoped that IIUI in the light of the vision of IIUI Rector and President would soon make its place among the leading educational institutions of the world. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, Director General, IRI in his address thanked the minister, Rector, President, Vice Presidents, Deans, DGs and rest of the community of university for joining the event.

He shared the vision of IRI and vowed that such events of celebrations and constructive nature would continue from the platform of IRI. At the end of the ceremony, a cake in connection with the celebrations of the 42nd anniversary of university was cut by the leadership of the university. The Honourable Minister, Rector and IIUI president also visited the stalls of books in the exhibition held in connection with anniversary celebrations.

Children’s day is celebrated worldwide on 20th November 

Karachi, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):To partake in celebrating our community’s little ones, the College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences in collaboration with Speech and Hearing Association of Pakistan carried out activities at three different places.

Our faculty members Fatima Yousuf, Rabbiah Sohail and Sonia Shah visited the Kiran Foundation and carried out an awareness session for it’s teachers. They talked about speech and language disorders, red flags that children may present with in class, and how to identify and refer to kids who may need speech therapy. They also highlighted the need for inclusive education here in Pakistan and discussed the factors that make up an inclusive setting.

Our first year students later accompanied faculty members Fatima Yousuf, Samreen Zubair, Mehek Altaf and Taleah Tariq to Sirat ul Jannah orphanage. They engaged the children in games including passing the pillow and origami. It was time well spent, the visitors felt inspired by how spirited the little ones are, the children enjoyed fully, and received goodie bags as tokens of appreciation.

Our last stop was the paediatric ward at Ziauddin University Hospital. Fatima Yousuf and Hafeez Punjani took goodie bags for the children admitted there to help make their day a little better.

Children deserve to be celebrated, all day, every day!

MoU signed between University of Education and National Curriculum Council

Lahore, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between University of Education, Lahore and National Curriculum Council (NCC) Secretariat Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Government of Pakistan.

According to the signed MoU, both the parties will cooperate with each other regarding the up gradation and reforms of curriculum development. The University of Education will provide its expertise on curriculum development and for this purpose University will host interactive events to deliberate on the ongoing curriculum reforms and will provide concluded feedback.

Dr. Marium Chughtai Director National Curriculum Council (NCC) signed the MoU from Ministry Federal Education and Professional Training Government of Pakistan whereas Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) Vice Chancellor University of Education Lahore signed on behalf of University of Education. Dr Ayaz Muhammad Khan Director DoE signed as witness from University of Education, Lahore.

Vice Chancellor stresses system of assessment that taps diversity at TEDxGCU

Lahore, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The third annual TEDxGCU Lahore was held here at Government College University Lahore celebrating the sharing of ideas in the form of well-curated, powerful talks. This year, event featured Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi’s talk on why can’t we have Institutions like Oxford, Cambridge or Harvard in Pakistan. He went on to highlight that our educational institutions need to have a system of assessment that taps diversity of talents among the students.

We need a culture in the classroom that generates an effective engagement between the teachers and the students. Students must take the responsibility towards innovations in the industry they work on. The event was attended by students of different universities including GCU Lahore, Kinnaird College, Punjab University and LCWU.

The event started with the introductory remarks of the Advisor Aqib Sikandar who highlighted the key initiative of “Going Paperless” and announced a whopping 80% reduction in paper consumption for TEDxGCU Lahore 2021 as compared to previous events. The first session featured TED Talks from Jawad Raza, Monis Rehman and Yumna Majeed, who talked about the effects of COVID-19 lockdown on mental health, reduction in job opportunities and the lack of knowledge regarding space education in Pakistan. The three talks were followed by a networking break with refreshments and goody bags for both attendees and the speakers.

‘You don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart’ was a message beautifully sung by Javeria Amin at the start of the second session. Faraz Talat, Mahnoor Fatima and Muhammad Ahsan delivered their talks highlighting issues like harassment, introducing change, and the obsession of society with fair skin. Bilal Akbar put the audience in fits of laughter with his hilarious stand-up comedy, wrapping up the second session.

Rawal Bhatti enthralled the audience with his amazing guitar performance. The event ended with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, presenting souvenirs to the TEDx speakers, performers, the organizer and the advisor. Mariam Ishtiaq, the organizer for TEDxGCU Lahore 2021 came up on stage to express a few words on the event. TEDxGCU Lahore 2021’s talks and performances will be available on TEDx’s official YouTube channel in upcoming days.

Chairman PSP Mustafa Kamal telephoned Acting Governor Ch Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chairman Pak Sarzameen Party Syed Mustafa Kamal contacted Acting Governor Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on telephone. He pursued the well-being of former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and wished him a speedy recovery. The two leaders also discussed the local government system and the current political situation.

Syed Mustafa Kamal told Ch Parvez Elahi that relief has been received from the Supreme Court in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the Local Government Act; therefore we are also going to the Supreme Court against the Sindh Government. Ch Parvez Elahi thanked Syed Mustafa Kamal for his best wishes for Ch Shujat Hussain.
