Vice Chancellor IUB Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob attended a meeting held in Islamabad

Bahawalpur, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Vice Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob attended a meeting held in Islamabad yesterday under the chairmanship of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema. The Vice Chancellor apprised that Islamia University is taking immediate steps for large scale cultivation of strip intercropping. For this purpose, young researcher Dr. Ali Raza will prepare PC-1 keeping in view importance of agriculture economy. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob launched a special project on intercropping technology as a game changer in the context of massive import of edible oil and saving billions of rupees in foreign exchange.

He promoted cooperation with Chinese universities for this purpose. Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza, a researcher and agricultural scientist, worked very fast in this regard. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob also inspected the test fields and senior officials of federal and provincial research institutes inspected the test cultivation and appreciated the initiative of Islamia University. Last month, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan inaugurated the Intercropping Research Center on the occasion of his visit to Islamia University, Bahawalpur and appreciated this very important project in the agricultural economy. A meeting held at the Ministry of Food Security yesterday approved a special plan for the practical implementation of this project and the important role of Islamia University Bahawalpur in it.

Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi’s birthday

Bahawalpur, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):On the birthday of Nawab Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan Abbasi-V, the last ruler of Bahawalpur, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob, Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Prof. Dr. Shahid Hassan Rizvi, Honorary Director of Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan Khamis Abbasi-V Chair, said in their statement that the progress made by the state of Bahawalpur during the rule of Nawab was a shining chapter in the history of the region and the country.

During that period, the revenue of the state increased significantly, educational activities increased, agriculture as a result of the Sutlej Valley project flourished here and the state gained prominence among the developed states of Punjab. Today, there is a need to rethink this sincere Sadiq vision and make full use of it by making it a leader, and to make this region a metaphor for peace, development and a bright future again.

IRD to hold Condolence Reference to pay tribute to Syed Ali Geelani

Islamabad, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Heads of Pakistani Universities, prominent figures of society and intellectuals will pay homage to Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a condolence reference to be held on Friday, October 01, at Faisal Masjid Campus organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of IIUI.

The reference shall also be joined by former AJK Premier Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan as chief guest, while IIUI Rector Prof Dr Masoom Yasinzai shall preside over the reference. The program is titled “We are Pakistanis – Pakistan is ours”. The program will be telecast live in all universities across the country.

Talking about the program, Dr. Husn-ul-Amim, Executive Director IRD, said that Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Mujahideen and Martyrs have sacrificed and dedicated their lives to freedom and the activity is aimed at paying rich tributes to the untiring efforts. He said that the heads of most of the universities of the country have finalized their participation in the condolence reference. A documentary about Ali Geelani (late) will also be screened on the occasion.

PEC Team calls on President, IIUI

Islamabad, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The visitation team of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) called on H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) at his office. It was headed by prof. Dr. Anwar Khitab. During the meeting, topics of mutual interests including programs offered at faculty of engineering and technology were discussed. Team also visited the labs, infrastructure and facilities of BS Civil Engineering program.

On the occasion, the President, IIU apprised the team of the vision, mission, strategic plan and activities of the university. The President, IIU also appreciated the efforts of the Faculty. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Prof. Dr. Khan Zaib Jadoon, Chairman, DCE.

FMJW delegation visits BIC

Islamabad, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Upon the recommendation of Higher Education Commission (HEC) highlighting strong performance for BIC’s, a delegation from Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) comprising of Mr. Amad ud Din (Manager Industrial Linkages), Ms. Tasneem Ilyas (Manager Research Operations) and Samreen Waseem (Project Coordinator) visited IIU Business Incubation Center (IIU-BIC) to learn more about their vision, facilities, operations, methods and scope for other universities to implement similar initiative to increase innovation and entrepreneurship. A very cooperative and fruitful meeting was chaired by Director BIC Engr. Muhammad Ahsen Mirza.

After a detailed presentation and discussion, the FJWU team were given a tour of BIC facilities and interacted with various startups. The FJWU team appreciated the quality of the facilities, the professional approach of the BIC team in conducting operations and development of startups. Director IIU-BIC said that team IIU BIC aims to develop a robust strategy to implement initiatives through collaborations and contribute towards a knowledge based economic growth.

Punjab Assembly passes three govt. bills

Islamabad, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Punjab Assembly passed three government bills on Thursday and deferred two resolutions due to ministerial absence, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its daily factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the fifth sitting of 35th session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for two hours and three minutes.

The sitting started at 03:32 pm against the scheduled time of 02:00 pm.

The speaker presided over the sitting for 18 minutes while the remaining sitting was chaired by a member of panel of chairpersons.

The deputy speaker was not present.

The leaders of the House (Chief Minister) and the opposition did not attend the sitting.

As many as 41 MPAs (11 percent) were present at the outset and 27 (seven percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

None of the parliamentary leader attended the proceedings.

One out of eight minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Output

The House passed three government bills including the Lahore Ring Road Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021; the Punjab Commission for Regularization of Irregular Housing Schemes Bill, 2021and the Punjab Commission for Regularization of Irregular Housing Schemes (Amendment), Bill 2021.

Two supplementary resolutions were deferred due to absence of relevant ministers.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up 12 out 34 starred questions. In addition, lawmakers asked 21 supplementary questions.

Minister for information responded to an adjournment motion regarding entertainment stuff on television channels. Minister for law responded to two other adjournment motions regarding cleanliness situation in Kasur and drug addiction among youth.

Minister for law responded to six calling attention notices related to law and order situation in various areas of the province.

Order and Institutionalization

The House was adjourned to meet again on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 09:00 am.
