PRCS holds Extraordinary General Meeting to elect new Managing Body 

Islamabad, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The new Managing Body of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) was unanimously elected at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held here at the National Headquarters on Wednesday. Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon virtually attended the EGM as president of respective provincial branches of the PRCS.

PRCS Balochistan Branch Chairman Akram Shah Advocate, erstwhile FATA Branch Chairman Asif Khan, AJK State Branch Administrator Lt Col (r) Tahir Younas, representatives of Ministry of National Health Services, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as well as ICT Commissioner Office also attended the meeting. President Arif Alvi was scheduled to chair the EGM, however he could not attend for having caught Covid-19 and delegated the responsibility to PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq, who chaired the meeting as President of the Society.

The meeting was held in line with the provisions of the constitution of the PRCS after necessary permissions from the President’s Secretariat and as per past precedence. Dr Irshad Muhammad, Asif Bajwa, Syed Hashim A Hassan, Dr Parvez Ghaffar Rajwani, Brig (r) Abdul Hadi and Brig (r) Dr Mowadat Hussain Rana were elected unopposed as new members of the PRCS Managing Body through show of hands process for a period of two years. Safety precautions in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic were strictly observed during the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Governors of Punjab, Sindh and GB appreciated the services rendered by PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq for strengthening the Society. They said Abrar ul Haq has injected a new life to the PRCS, and also assured their all-out support to the organization in delivery of humanitarian services. In the end, special prayers were offered for fast recovery of President Arif Alvi.

PRCS, OGDCL ink MoU to equip RCCH with X-Ray machine 

Islamabad, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) have signed an MoU under which the latter will donate an X-ray machine to the Red Crescent Corona Care Hospital, Rawalpindi. The MoU was signed by PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq and OGDCL MD/CEO Shahid Salim Khan on behalf of their respective organizations at a ceremony held at the PRCS National Headquarters Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Abrar ul Haq said the PRCS has rendered remarkable services in containing the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. He said the state-of-the-art Red Crescent Corona Care Hospital (RCCH) was set up within a record period of 15 days. He said hundreds of Covid-19 patients have been treated at the RCCH so far. He said besides free-of-cost treatment facilities, psychosocial support was also provided to the patients at the RCCH. He said in another feather in the PRCS cap, the government has also designated the RCCH as Mass Vaccination Centre for vaccination of general public against Covid-19.

Abrar ul Haq appreciated the OGDCL for donating an X-ray machine to the RCCH. He said the installation of state-of-the-art machine will boost diagnostic facilities at the hospital and help save lives through early diagnosis of any complications in Covid-19 patients. He said the OGDCL has always supported PRCS in delivery of humanitarian services. He also recalled OGDCL support for upgradation of ambulance fleet of the PRCS.

Addressing the ceremony, OGDCL MD/CEO Shahid Salim Khan hailed the PRCS endeavours for supporting the vulnerable segments of the society. He said being the largest CSR contributor of the country, the OGDCL is always on the lookout for an opportunity to serve those in need. He offered to extend further support to the PRCS in its humanitarian initiatives.

It is worth mentioning here that the OGDCL has provided an amount of Rs 15 million to the PRCS for purchase and installation of state-of-the-art X-ray machine at the RCCH to boost its diagnostic facilities. PRCS Acting Secretary General Dr Adeel Nawaz, PRCS and OGDCL senior officials also attended the ceremony.

Balochistan Assembly takes up entire agenda, adopts three resolutions 

Islamabad, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Balochistan Assembly took up its entire agenda on Friday and adopted three resolutions, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the second sitting of the 42nd session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for three hours and 29 minutes.

The sitting started at 06:25 pm against the scheduled time of 04:00 pm.

The speaker presided over the sitting for two hours and five minutes while the remaining sitting was chaired by a member of panel of presiding officers.

The deputy speaker was present for an hour and three minutes.

The leader of the House (Chief Minister) attended the sitting for 45 minutes.

The opposition leader attended the entire sitting.

As many as 33 MPAs (51percent) were present at the outset and 11(17percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of MMAP, BNP-M, PkMAP and BAP attended the proceedings.

All three minority lawmakers were present.

Output

The House adopted a resolution to condemn murder of ANP leader Malik Obaidullah after his abduction for ransom from Kachlak area of Balochistan. The resolution was sponsored by ANP lawmakers and fifteen lawmakers participated in debate on it for two hours and five minutes.

The House adopted two other resolutions demanding to set up zonal headquarter of Balochistan Constabulary at Kharan and declare rain-affected districts in province as calamity-hit areas besides announcement of special compensation packages for land owners and people.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up all ten starred questions while the lawmakers also asked two supplementary questions.

A motion to constitute committee of whole for debate on PSDP 2021-22 was rejected.

Parliamentary Secretary for Quetta Development Authority responded to a calling attention notice regarding fee amount fixed to get NOC for a private housing scheme.

Order and Institutionalization

Three lawmakers spoke on points of order for 15 minutes related to law and order situation.

A PkMAP lawmaker walked out from the House for ten minutes, terming the report of police unsatisfactory about kidnapping case of his son.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, August 08, 2021 at 04:00 pm.

Transparency

‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and others.

PRCS distributes food packs among 500 deserving families

Islamabad, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) on Friday distributed food packs among deserving families at a ceremony held here at the National Headquarters. The food packs were distributed among 500 families as part of an initiative launched in collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) under which a total of 5,000 families will be provided with ration packs in 13 districts of the country during the holy month of Ramazan.

Ambassador of Turkey Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq, Secretary General Dr Adeel Nawaz, Head of Turkish Red Crescent in Pakistan Ibraheem Carlos, PRCS and TRC officials and volunteers attended the ceremony. In his address on the occasion, Chairman Abrar ul Haq said the PRCS has been serving the suffering humanity across country to the best of its capabilities and without any discrimination. He said the PRCS officers and trained volunteers have the unique honour of being the first to reach and last to leave the troubled spots in the wake of any disaster or emergency situation in any part of the country.

Abrar ul Haq said the holy month of Ramazan affords an opportunity to the faithful to win Allah Almighty’s boundless blessings by serving the deserving people. He said every year, the PRCS distributes food packs among the deserving families in collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent. He said the TRC has supported several development and humanitarian interventions in Pakistan for decades. He wished a stronger partnership between PRCS and TRC in future to ensure a better future to the vulnerable segments of the society. “Together, we have to work for the betterment of our communities with greater commitment and dedication,” he added.

In his speech, Turkish Ambassador Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul said the humanity is facing several challenges at this point of time. “We are facing the challenge of Covid-19, the challenge of need and the scarcity of livelihoods,” he said, adding that this ceremony is the expression of solidarity with the deserving people of Pakistan amid these challenging times. “The quantity of food packs being distributed may not be that huge, but what matters is the demonstration of close relations and brotherhood between the people of Pakistan and Turkey,” he said, adding that the TRC has reached out to thousands of people in Pakistan in the time of need in the recent years.

The ambassador hailed the PRCS for its services towards the suffering humanity. He also appreciated PRCS and the TRC for organizing such a blessed ceremony in the holy month of Ramazan. Later, Ambassador Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, Chairman Abrar ul Haq, Secretary General Dr Adeel Nawaz and Head of Turkish Red Crescent Ibraheem Carlos distributed ration packs among the deserving families.

Social media the most effective means of mass communication: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur

Lahore, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has formally issued the notification of the appointment of Rai Sajid Hussain as the head of the social media working council, Hafiz Asif Joya as coordinator and Sikandar Awan as deputy coordinator of the social media council. On the recommendation of the central president of MYL, SMWC has endorsed the names of the office-holders.

Speaking on the occasion, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that social media is an effective source of communication for the publicity of the parties’ manifesto and their course of action. He said that it is also the means through which education and moral and spiritual training can be imparted to the youth. He said that the enemies of Islam and Pakistani ideology are using the weapon of social media to bring a bad name to Islam and Pakistan. He said that such elements need to be checkmated.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has produced a team of ideologically committed social media activists in whose presence no one can dare indulge in mischief mongering. He said that we consider the protection of the faith and character of youth our prime responsibility.

PU IAP in collaboration with Media Training and Research Centre and Inter University Consortium for promotion of Social Sciences organized a Dialogue on “Peaceful and Safer Campuses”

Lahore, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Institute of Applied Psychology, University of the Punjab in collaboration with Media Training and Research Centre (MTRC) and Inter University Consortium for promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) organized a Dialogue on “Peaceful and Safer Campuses” on 6th August, 2021. More than 30 faculty members were a part of the dialogue. The session focused around the topic of Peaceful and Safer Campuses and a student-teacher dialogue was held to invigorate improvement in the teaching methods.

The focal person of the training program, Prof. Dr. Altaf Ullah Khan, Dean Faculty of Humanities, FC College highlighted the importance of maintaining harmony and tranquillity in the educational institutes. Maintenance of peace in educational institutes is a salient feature to both the teachers and the students’ mental health. It was an interactive session where faculty members and students shared their personal experiences and ways to promote furtherance in tolerance among students.
