Zimbabwe Captain and Ireland Players Penalized for Code of Conduct Breach

Karachi, In a significant development in the world of cricket, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and Ireland players Curtis Campher and Josh Little have been sanctioned for violating the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct. This incident occurred during the first T20I match between Zimbabwe and Ireland at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

According to International Cricket Council, Raza has been fined 50 percent of his match fee and received two demerit points. This penalty leads to his suspension for the remaining two matches of the ongoing three-match series, as his accumulated demerit points reached four within a 24-month period following this latest breach.

Campher and Little, on the other hand, have been fined 15 percent of their respective match fees and received one demerit point each. This marks their first demerit point within a 24-month period.

The trio was found to have breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game. The specific incidents leading to these charges involved aggressive and physical behaviors on the field.

Campher and Little both admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. Consequently, there was no requirement for a formal hearing in their cases.

In contrast, Raza admitted to the offence but did not accept the sanction proposed by Mr. Pycroft. His sanction was later confirmed in a formal hearing on 8 December.

Details of the incidents include Raza aggressively charging towards Campher and Little, and Campher and Little engaging in physical contact and charging towards Raza, respectively.

The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Forster Mutizwa and Iknow Chabi, along with third umpire Langton Rusere and fourth official Christopher Phiri.

Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct, like those committed by the players, carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
