Karachi, Yasir Arafat, the former Test all-rounder, has been named the High-Performance Coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team. This significant appointment comes as the team gears up for their five-match T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to take place from January 12 to 21, 2024, in New Zealand.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, 41-year-old Yasir Arafat’s role will be crucial in the team management during the upcoming series. Arafat, who has represented Pakistan in three Tests, 11 ODIs, and 13 T20Is, is not new to the rigors of international cricket. His extensive experience is further bolstered by his recent completion of the ECB Level 4 coaching course at Loughborough University, marking him as the first Pakistan Test cricketer to achieve this feat.
Arafat’s coaching career is as notable as his playing days. He has previously held the position of bowling coach with various county teams, including Sussex and Surrey. His expertise also extends to the Australian Big Bash League, where he served with the Perth Scorchers. More recently, he contributed as the bowling coach for the Hong Kong national team.
Apart from his coaching roles, Yasir Arafat has been an active player in T20 league cricket globally. His experience includes playing for teams such as Otago and Canterbury in New Zealand’s domestic T20 league, which will undoubtedly be beneficial in his new role considering the upcoming series in New Zealand.
Yasir Arafat is set to begin his duties as the camp commandant for a five-day training camp in Lahore, running from December 29 to January 2. This camp is aimed at preparing the Pakistani team for their tour of New Zealand, indicating a hands-on approach from the outset of his tenure.
