University of Turbat Faculty Member Wins Prestigious Literary Award

TURBAT, Dr. Ghafoor Shad, an esteemed faculty member at the University of Turbat (UoT), has been honored with the best book award at the Arts Council Karachi for his first poetry book in Balochi literature, “Man Kassi Nehan” Dr. Shad, a renowned literary figure, educationalist, and language expert, serves as an Assistant Professor at UoT’s Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC) and is the Chairman of the Balochistan Academy Turbat.

According to University of Turbat, Dr. Ghafoor Shad received the award in person at the 16th Aalmi Urdu Conference 2023 held at the Arts Council Karachi, where he was also a guest speaker. The Aalmi Urdu Conference is a globally recognized literary gathering that brings together intellectuals from around the world to celebrate languages and literature.

Dr. Shad’s contribution to Balochi literature is not limited to this book. His previous works, “Balochi Classical Shahiri” and “Balochi Zuban Bunzia-o-Nibishta Rahband,” have also been recognized with prestigious awards: the “Mast Tawkali Award” in 2014 and the “Syed Hashmi Award” in 2019, both awarded by the Academy of Letters Islamabad. Known for his unique style in modern Balochi literature and expertise in linguistics, Dr. Shad has made significant contributions to the field.

The University of Turbat, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, the Director of IBLC and Dean of Faculty of Literature and Languages, along with the UoT fraternity, expressed their pride and extended gratitude to Dr. Ghafoor Shad for his remarkable literary achievement.
