UVAS holds 7th National workshop on ‘Reproductive Ultrasonography in Domestic Animals’ 

Lahore, April 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Theriogenology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with In-Service Veterinary Professional Development (IVPD) arranged concluding ceremony of 7th five-day training workshop on “Reproductive Ultrasonography in Five Species of Domestic Animals” here in UVAS Veterinary Academy.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (S.I.) chaired the concluding session of workshop and gave away certificates to the participants while Chairman Department of Theriogenology Prof Dr Amjad Riaz, Dr M Irfan-ur-Rehman Khan, Dr Talha Ashraf, Dr Sarbiland Khan, Dr Asmatullah Kaka including 24 veterinarian, farm mangers and vet practitioner/professionals from public and private organizations from all over Pakistan were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad lauded organizers for arranging such an informative hands-on training workshop which is necessary for the uplift of livestock sector and boost national economy of Pakistan. The objective of the workshop was to equip the participants with required knowledge and skills to diagnose reproductive issues and to improve fertility through ultrasonography in cow, buffalo, sheep, goats and dogs. The course aims to enhance participant’s practical knowledge and skills about the use and application of ultrasound in reproductive management of domestic animals. Visits to a private stud farm and local dairy animal sheds were also arranged during the workshop.

UVAS VC administers oath to NTSA new office-bearer

Lahore, April 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The newly-elected office-bearers of the Non-Teaching Staff Association of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore were sworn-in here on Friday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the oath-taking ceremony and administered oath to the office-bearers.

The new office-bearers are Asad Shah (President), Jawaid Iqbal (Senior Vice-President), Rana Shahid (Vice-President), Muhammad Shafique Gujjar (General Secretary), Hameed Maseeh (Joint Secretary), Amjad Mubarik (Finance Secretary), Waris Ali (Secretary Information), Shahid Ali (Patron in Chief).

Prof Nasim congratulated the new cabinet members of NTSA and said, “The UVAS has always given equal importance to the support staff and UVAS achievements in education, sports, national and international ranking and research are the result of collective efforts of the whole staff. He supported all the employees’ welfare steps of the union. Prof Nasim lauded the efforts of UVAS non-teaching staff members and their services and contribution for the development of the university. He advised them to work hard with full of dedication and play their role for the betterment of the university.

NTSA President Asad Shah presented the agenda of the association related to 25 percent special disparity reduction allowance, residential issues, recruitment of employees’ children and confirmation of daily wages staff for the welfare of the employees. President Academic Staff Association Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani and President Officer Staff Association Mr Rizwan Saleem also spoke on the occasion. A large number of UVAS staff attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Hands-on trainings on ‘Cheese making and Intervention in Consumer Awareness’ at UVAS

Lahore, April 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) organised a five days hands-on training on ‘Cheese Making’ and three days training on Intervention in Consumer Awareness” under the project ‘Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain’ here at City Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the concluding ceremony and distributed certificates among the both trainings participants. Chairperson Department of Dairy Technology Dr Saima Inayat, General Manager FrieslandCampina Dr Muhammad Nasir, Dr Imran Salah, Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid and participants/professionals of trainings from public and private sector and dairy industries were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS has always been well connected with livestock, food and dairy industries. He said UVAS Dairy Technology Department team was performing its duty in a befitting manner for the capacity building of the dairy professionals.

He said academia, industry and dairy professional liaison is key to sustainable strategy to boost dairy sector and utilize farmer milk with processing and value addition for their profitability. Dr Muhammad Nasir said that it is direly needed to create awareness among dairy professionals regarding the milk supply chain to enhance the national economy of the country. Dr Saima Inayat said that such trainings are the best source of knowledge sharing and experience with each-others.

During training experts imparted theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to the participant of training regarding cheese making. Various aspects were discussed during the trainings on Intervention in Consumer Awareness related to dairy market structure, consumer buying behaviour, market opportunities analysis, product policy and planning, deceptive marketing, pricing policy and regulation of dairy products, etc.

4-days ‘Halal Lead Auditor Training Course’ concludes at UVAS

Lahore, March 31, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with IFANCA Pakistan Halal Apex Private Limited organised concluding ceremony of four days ‘Halal Lead Auditor Training Course’ here at City Campus Lahore.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the concluding ceremony of the training course and distributed certificates among participants and resource persons while Chairman (FSHN) Dr Sanaullah Iqbal, Prof Dr Javaid Aziz Awan, Dr Sakhawat Ali and a number of participants including food industry professionals/ technologists, auditors, consultants, academicians, researchers, quality and regulatory affairs managers were present. Dr Muhammad Sohaib from (FSHN) and Muhammad Awais Karin (IFANCA) were the main organizer of the training course.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad lauded the organizer of the Lead Auditors Training Course to arrange this training on informative topic in a befitting manner and urged them to organize such training regularly every year.

He said UVAS always working closely with the dairy, poultry, meat as well as with food industries. He also sought suggestions from participants of training that how to make such training more productive for the capacity building of the professionals. Dr Muhammad Sohaib spoke about the objectives of the training course.

Various aspects have been discussed during four-day training course related to overview of halal market, halal and amp; haram in light of shariah, halal food standard (PS 3733-2019), halal certification process, halal auditing procedure, halal (competency, ingredients, certification) halal food and food safety, halal certification challenges and documentation for food and allied industries.

UVAS Dairy-Beef Project Team organised Community of Practice Workshop 

Lahore, March 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Dairy-Beef Project Team of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with University of Melbourne (UM) organised daylong Community of Practice workshop at Avari Hotel Lahore on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the inaugural session of the workshop while Project Manager Dairy-Beef Project Team Dr Humera Iqbal, Dr Hassan Mahmood Warraich, Dr David McGill, Kaykine Height and extension managers, heads/CEO’s from research/academia, government, NGO’s from public and private sector were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad put focus to the organizations to sustain the whole family extension approach activities even Dairy-Beef project ends. Dr Amjad Saqib from Akhuwat Foundation shared that Dairy-Beef project support sharing extension research lessons are the instrumental to improve farm production in Kasur district whereas he is also keen to disseminate project result into other communities and other districts.

Later, Dr David McGill from Australia spoke about the objectives of the workshop and brief introduction of the project the team from UVAS and UM in his online video message. Dr Humera Iqbal briefed about the project update (focus-objectives, gender mainstream and future plan) while Dr Hassan Mahmood Warraich spoke about the Impacts of the Whole family extension approach (WFEA) training intervention on the capacity building of farm advisors within the current livestock advisory services system of Pakistan.

The objectives of the workshop were to demonstrate the impact of the ‘Whole family extension approach’ (WFEA) through sharing the outcome of already collected data (farm advisors/case studies), exploring the potential opportunities with various collaborating organizations to sustain the WFEA key activities including farm advisor training workshops and community of practice in future and data collection regarding the impacts of WFEA within various organizations.

Vice Chancellor inaugurates CRISPR Lab at UVAS Ravi Campus 

Lahore, March 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Later Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad inaugurated CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats Lab) developed at UVAS, Ravi Campus through NRPU project earned by Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics Dr Muhammad Bilal Bin Majeed funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and supported by UVAS. Meanwhile Prof Nasim also visited on the sites of silage and appreciated the efforts of Dr Jamshed Ahmad for in time preparation of silage for the animals of UVAS Farms.
