World Veterinary Day observed at UVAS

Lahore, April 28, 2022 (PPI-OT): The University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Nawan Laboratories and Selmore Pharmaceuticals observed World Veterinary Day with the theme “Strengthening Veterinary Resilience” on Thursday here at City Campus Lahore. Various activities including a walk, a seminar, a poster competition, a free medical treatment camp and renowned veterinarian massages featured the day in a befitting manner to create awareness about the welfare of animals in the community.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk while Principal Officer City Campus Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Chief Executive Officer Forward Solution Animal Health Company Dr Asim Mahmood Khan, Incharge Pet Centre Prof Dr Asim Khalid and a large number of students from Vets Care Club, faculty members and industries representatives participated. The walk started from in front of the Vice-Chancellor office and culminated at UVAS Outdoor Hospital where Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad along with other dignitaries inaugurated free medical treatment camp.

Later, a seminar was arranged to sensitize people about the importance of animal welfare, health and treatment. Addressing the students in the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS successfully completed its 20 years due to its quality of education and research. He said that Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree is the flagship programme of the UVAS and it is direly needed to adopt the latest technologies, diagnostics and skills to uplift veterinary profession in the country.

Dr Asim Mahmood Khan as a guest speaker delivered a lecture to students on the topic of strengthening veterinary resilience. He advised students to select any field related to genetics, breeding, pet practices, diagnostics, animal nutrition and animal management and they need to learn innovative knowledge to excel in their selected fields for the uplift of veterinary profession.

In their recorded messages, senior veterinarians Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Prof Dr Asim Khalid, Prof Dr Amjad Riaz, Prof Dr Hamad Bin Rasheed, Dr Rehanul Haq urged the importance of veterinary ethics, positive uses of social media, animal diseases, cope up challenges related to diseases outbreaks and measures, awareness, innovation, learning about modern technologies and skills and academia industry linkages to fill the gap in the veterinary profession, etc.

At the end, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf chaired the concluding ceremony of the seminar and gave away a shield to Dr Asim Mahmood Khan and distributed cash prizes among the winners of poster competition. Similar activities were also held on other UVAS campuses to observe World Veterinary Day.

UVAS arranged walk and seminar to mark International DNA Day

Lahore, April 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBBT) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore observed international DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Day on Monday here in City Campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk starting from Vice-Chancellor office and culminating in front of DNA model at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBBT) while Director (IBBT) Prof Dr Waseem Shahzad, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Prof Dr Yasir Zahoor and a large number of students and faculty members participated.

Later in the seminar, Director Institute of Industrial Biotechnology from Government College University Lahore Prof Dr Nauman Aftab delivered a detailed lecture on the introduction of DNA and its importance in the modern era. The day was celebrated in memory of discovery of DNA structure, because the advances in health agriculture and other fields of biotechnology took place after this amazing discovery of DNA by James D. Watson and Francis H. C. Crick that was reported on 25th April 1953.

UVAS holds seminar on “Ramdhan; A Turning Point” 

Lahore, April 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):Earlier, the Character-Building Society and Senior Tutor Office of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Naseeha Institute arranged a seminar on “Ramdhan; A Turning Point” here at City Campus Lahore.

In which Arslan Ahmad and Yasin Asad was the guest speaker who delivered their lecture on the fazeelat of holy month of Ramzan. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Principal Officer City Campus Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Convener Character Building Society Prof Dr Mian Hafeez and a large number of students attended the seminar.

Dairy industry professionals trained at UVAS 

Lahore, April 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) organised a three days hands-on learning on ‘Traceability of milk and value added Dairy Products Through the Dairy Value Chain’ and five days training programme on “Food Safety and Halal Management System” under the project ‘Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain’ here at City Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the concluding ceremony and distributed certificates among the both trainings participants and resource persons while Additional Director General Punjab Food Authority Ms Saba Adil, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Anjum Khalique, Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid and 35 participants/professionals of trainings from public and private sector and dairy industries were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS has always been well connected with dairy and food industries. He said UVAS Dairy Technology Department team imparting latest knowledge and skills for the capacity building of the dairy professionals. Ms Saba Adil said such trainings are the best source of knowledge sharing and experience with each-others.

Various aspects were discussed during the trainings regarding emergence of food traceability, challenges in food traceability, traceability in dairy industry, market based sentiments, consumer perspective, regulation of dairy products, food fraud, food safety management, leadership commitment, effective operation, process approaches and risk based thinking etc.

Oath Taking Ceremony and Alumni Reunion of Vet Crescent Society held at UVAS

Lahore, April 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Vet Crescent Society (VCS) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised oath-taking ceremony and alumni reunion here at the City Campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the oath-taking ceremony and administered oath to the new office-bearers of the Vet Crescent Society (VCS). Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani and many representatives from pharmaceutical industries, VCS alumni and faculty members were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad congratulated the new office bearers. He appreciated the services of VCS for providing treatment facilities to farming community and also for the welfare of animal. He said that VCS club is playing a vital role in the personality development of students especially for their practical life.

He mentioned UVAS always supports its students for providing many opportunities of learning for their capacity building. He advised students to work hard with dedication and become role models for others veterinarians. At the end of the programme Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad along with other dignitaries cut the cake.

OSA arranged Farewell ceremony on the retirement of Deputy Controller of Exam Mr Zahid Hussain and Transport Officer Mr Muhammad Riaz at UVAS 

Lahore, April 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Officer Staff Association of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged “Farewell ceremony and Iftaari for Deputy Controller of Exam Mr Zahid Hussain and Transport Officer Mr Muhammad Riaz who have been retired from UVAS service” here in City Campus Lahore. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the farewell ceremony while Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Registrar Sajjad Hyder, OSA President Muhammad Rizwan Saleem and a large number of OSA members from all campuses of UVAS were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nasim said that both the officers served their service with full of dedication and contributed their role for the uplift of the university. He also lauded the effort of the OSA members to arranged farewell ceremony and Iftaari in the honour of both officers. Earlier Zahid Hussain and Mr Muhammad Riaz thanked the OSA members and expressed their best wishes for the progress of UVAS.
