Lahore, The ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament has been announced, featuring players from champion team Australia, runners-up India, semi-finalists South Africa and New Zealand, as well as Sri Lanka. The selection showcases the exceptional talent and performances from these nations in the tournament.
According to International Cricket Council (ICC), the selection panel consisting of experts like Ian Bishop, Kass Naidoo, Shane Watson, Wasim Khan, and Sunil Vaidya, the team includes standout performers from various teams. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa made the list after leading their team to a record-extending sixth victory. India’s KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mohammed Shami were also selected for their remarkable contributions.
The team, in batting order, features Quinton de Kock (wk) from South Africa, India’s Rohit Sharma (c) and Virat Kohli, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, India’s KL Rahul, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, India’s Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka, Australia’s Adam Zampa, and India’s Mohammed Shami. Gerald Coetzee from South Africa is the 12th player.
Rohit Sharma, named in the Team of the Tournament for the second 50-over World Cup in a row, showcased exceptional batting, including a crucial century against Afghanistan. The retiring Quinton de Kock also made history as the first wicket-keeper to surpass 500 runs and claim 20 dismissals in a single tournament. Virat Kohli, with a staggering 765 runs, broke the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar. Daryl Mitchell’s remarkable batting, including two centuries against India, also earned him a spot.
Glenn Maxwell’s standout performances, including the fastest century against the Netherlands, and Jasprit Bumrah’s effective bowling, including early dismissals in the final against Australia, were significant. Dilshan Madushanka, Adam Zampa, and Mohammed Shami’s impressive wicket-taking abilities were also recognized. Gerald Coetzee emerged as a key force for South Africa, becoming the leading wicket-taker for his team.
